Man and child taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Neutral Bay.

A young boy his fighting for his life in hospital after he and his father were mowed down by an out of control Audi outside of a school in Sydney’s lower north shore.

Police were called to Bydown Street in Neutral Bay just before 9am following reports two pedestrians had been hit by a vehicle.

It is understood the 40-year-old man and an eight-year-old boy were using a pedestrian crossing near Neutral Bay Public School when they were hit by the SUV.

Horrified parents and children watched on as the driver flew across the crossing, hit the pedestrians and continued down the road.

The boy was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick suffering critical head injuries.

The man, who is believed to be the father of the boy, was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious condition.

Another eight-year-old boy was also taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick as a precaution. He is reportedly in a stable condition.

The 53-year-old driver was taken to Royal North Shore hospital to be treated for shock and is assisting police with their inquiries.

It is believed the male driver suffered a medical episode, according to 7 News.

“I looked up and … saw that car crashing and I noticed there was one of two kids lying on the zebra crossing,” a witness told the outlet.

After ploughing through the pedestrian crossing the driver continued up the road, clipping two cars along the way.

They then drove through an intersection before coming to a stop after crashing into another parked car.

“Someone was running past the pedestrians saying ‘Don’t let the kids see, please don’t let the kids see’,” another witness told 7 News.

“I feel sick. I was obviously very upsetting.”

Witnesses reportedly performed CPR on the victims before paramedics arrived.

Ambulance NSW Inspector Christie Marks said these types of incidents were extremely difficult for all involved.

“As you can imagine these jobs are fairly horrendous for ambulance [officers] to attend to and for bystanders as well that were here treating before we actually arrived,” she said.

Officers from North Shore Police Area Command established a crime scene with police from the Crash Investigation Unit to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is urged to come forward.
