Verizon mobile phone customers stand to receive up to $100 each as their cut of a proposed $100 million class action settlement.
The plaintiffs alleged that Verizon harmed wireless subscribers with a “deceptive charging scheme” in which additional fees were properly disclosed. The communications giant denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the nine-figure payout. Affected subscribers have until April 15 to file a complaint.
The lawsuit, which originated in New Jersey, claims that U. S. Verizon consumers with certain wireless service plans were charged “higher monthly rates than Array. . . announced and promised” when Verizon added an “administrative fee” to its monthly bills.
The plaintiffs alleged that Verizon “omits or misrepresents” those fees on visitors’ bills, thereby misleading visitors. Verizon denies wrongdoing with the plaintiffs over the settlement amount.
According to the complaint, Verizon charged its consumers 40 cents a month in administrative payments per phone line in 2005; The payment has gradually increased, hovering around $3. 30 per month per line through 2022. The plaintiffs alleged that Verizon “unilaterally sets and increases the amount of administrative payments based on its internal profit targets. “
Verizon states on its page that this payment is used to cover costs related to renting and maintaining mobile sites, among other expenses.
Verizon said it will continue to charge administrative fees in the long term and that they will possibly increase. However, as part of the agreement, the company will make fees more transparent to customers.
Current and former Verizon cell phone consumers in the U. S. U. S. citizens (based on their last known billing address) who paid an administrative payment and/or a “telecommunications recovery payment” between January 1, 2016 and November 8, 2023 are included in the settlement class.

Verizon’s class action payment will vary by visitor based on several factors, adding how long you were/are a Verizon visitor and the number of valid claims filed.
Under the rules, eligible parties can get up to $100. Depending on the legal prices and the number of eligible claims, the final amount may simply be less.
Verizon’s $100 million settlement fund will be used in three ways:
You can file a claim in two ways: online or by mail. If you file electronically, you will need to have a notification ID number and a confirmation code, which you would have earned by email or regular mail.
If you file your claim by regular mail, print the claim form and mail it to the Verizon Administration Charge Settlement, Maintained by the Settlement Administrator, 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
The deadline to register electronically is April 15, 2024. If you register by regular mail, the claim form must be postmarked until that date.
