Quno, which launches later this year, is going up against sites such as thetrainline.com to provide travel information and train tickets. It promises to make it easier to book tickets.
It has partnered with SCVNGR, a mobile social gaming platform, to create a game that can be played in London Waterloo, Paddington, Liverpool Street, Euston, Bristol Temple Meads, Birmingham New Street, Manchester Piccadilly and Edinburgh.
The game requires players to fulfill a series of responsibilities and demanding situations, in order to earn points and badges and compete against other players in the same station. Players sign up by downloading the app on their iPhone or Android phone.
Quno hopes the new game will inspire more people to use the beta site. At the moment, the site is invite-only, but one of the in-game rewards will be a code.
Jeremy Acklam, chief executive of Quno. com, said: “Interacting with rail passengers at stations will allow us to better understand their wishes while also providing them with enjoyable entertainment.
“At Quno, we understand that consumers want us to provide them with the latest generation to simplify online search and booking activities. With SCVNGR, we’re extending this to mobile gaming, bringing it directly to rail passengers. “
Quno is currently in beta. It will sell tickets for all UK train operators, including fully flexible, semi-flexible and tickets discounted up to 80% on the price of a ticket bought on the day of travel.
Earlier this summer, Quno used a social media campaign through the microsite trainspotterwanted. co. uk to position and lead its social media campaigns. Other activities, in addition to publicity, are planned for later this year.
