Considering Taiwan as an integral component of its territory, China claims the self-governing island of Taiwan as a component of its mainland and promotes the “One China” policy. During his third five-year term, President Xi Jinping has accelerated efforts to reunify Taiwan with China, making it a key military and diplomatic precedent in recent years.
On the foreign policy front, Xi reiterated China’s commitment to promoting global governance reforms and contributing to global peace and stability. In his New Year message, Xi said one of his government’s main goals is to reassure the Chinese public about the state of the economy, which has slowed after the COVID-19 crisis. This slowdown has led to the collapse of the lucrative genuine real estate sector and the widespread closure of businesses across the country, leading to job losses for many people.
Xi said China’s economy has improved. He expressed optimism that by 2024, gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to exceed 130 trillion yuan (about 18. 08 trillion U. S. dollars). He pointed out that cereal production has exceeded 700 million tons.
