Four Corners Economic Development officials have ended their 10-month search for a new director.

The Farmington-based public-private partnership that works alongside county and municipal governments, member businesses and resource organizations to promote economic growth in San Juan County, has hired Tim Gibbs of Ashland, Kentucky, as its new leader, according to Scott Bird, 4CED’s interim executive director.

Bird said Gibbs was hired after the 4CED board brought him in and another finalist in late December for interviews. Gibbs will begin his duties with the organization on Monday, Feb. 5, Bird said.

Gibbs is president and CEO of the Ashland Alliance Regional Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development. He is lately completing his Ph. D. at Morehead State University, according to his resume. Gibbs has also worked in economic progression and progression positions in Aberdeen, Washington; northwestern Colorado; Still Water, Oklahoma; and Moffat County, Colorado.

Bird said Gibbs’ educational and professional qualifications made him a smart candidate for the position, as well as his experience in selecting sites for companies to relocate to Ashland.

“He’s done some things like that,” Bird said. And it’s very popular in Ashland. “

Jeremiah Hayes, the chairman of the executive committee who interviewed Gibbs, said it was Gibbs’ interpersonal skills that sealed the deal for him.

“I think what’s vital to me is that he’s been given a very attractive personality, and that’s going to help him have a good fit here at Four Corners,” Hayes said. “And he’s been given a lot of experience. “

Although the economic and cultural landscape of northeastern Kentucky probably won’t exactly fit the conditions in the Four Corners area, Hayes said he and other committee members are confident Gibbs will temporarily adapt to the situation here, where a motion has been filed. underway for several years to shift the county’s economy from an over-reliance on fossil fuels to recreation, production and other areas.

“We did think about that in the hiring process, and we thought there were enough similarities between the two situations that would make his coming here a good fit,” Hayes said. “He has lots of transferrable skills.”

He described the hiring of Gibbs as a fresh start for 4CED and said he hopes it will usher in a new era for the organization.

“A lot of exciting things are going to happen in the next few years,” said Hayes, who made the impression before the San Juan County Commission last month to report on the 4CED’s plan to ask the state Legislature for $100 million to jumpstart a broader energy economy. in the county. He said the cash would be used for allocations such as the allocation of the Western Interstate Hydrogen Center at the Navajo Produce Industry headquarters south of Farmington, as well as infrastructure investments and sequestration support.

The position of 4CED’s Executive Director has been open since Arvin Trujillo resigned in March 2023 to settle for the position of Senior Advisor and CEO to Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren. Trujillo had been with the organization since 2019.
