Bayern Munich Makes Significant Step Towards 34th German Championship

Is the Bundesliga title race over? Perhaps not quite. But Bayern Munich has made a big step towards reclaiming the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday. While the Rekordmeister beat SC Freiburg 2-1, Leverkusen dropped two points against RB Leipzig after being 2-0 up early on.

Bayern defeated Freiburg thanks to goals from Harry Kane (15th) and Min-Jae Kim (54th). Matthias Ginter (69th) made the game attractive in the second half, but Bayern managed to keep the 3 points, unlike Leverkusen. Goals from Patrik Schick (18′) and Aleix García (36′) were not enough as David Raum (41′) and an opposing goal from his own half by Edmond Tapsoba (85′) allowed Leipzig to come back.

In fact, this seems a vital moment in the race by name. Levekusen now occupies six Rekordmeister numbers. This means that even a house victory in February against Bayern would only save three points. With any of the groups well and beyond the rest of the competition, it is unlikely that Leverkusen and Bayern leave many problems in the future.

For Bayern, the result also comes just days after a poor performance against Feyenoord in the Champions League. “It wasn’t turbulent,” Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany said about his side’s reaction to the Rotterdam result. “I was calm. We couldn’t change what happened in Rotterdam. But today, we influenced what would happen here.”

Certainly a time when the result in Rotterdam would have derailed things particularly for Bayern. In case the Rekordmeister showed mature functionality opposite to an aspect of Freiburg who, coming to the day, had one of the most productive House records in the league with just one loss.

“It probably wouldn’t have been our most productive game, however, it is one of the most productive wins because we know how complicated it is here in Freiburg,” Kompany Sad said. “It’s been a tough week for us with 3 games in a row. “

The victory over defeats by Freiburg and Leverkusen was not the only good news for Bayern Munich on Saturday. For the first time since November 22, when he scored against Augsburg, star striker Kane controlled the goal from open play.

“Harry never doubted himself,” Kompany said when asked about Kane. “He stayed calm and continued to run hard. Of course, today we can communicate about his purpose, he also defended deeply and helped the team a lot. It speaks to his character.

Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich hastened to praise Kane. “It helped us a lot in defense and even took us a yellow card,” Kimmich said. “Whatever his goal, what he did today was exactly what we needed. It’s not about scoring. ” wiles.

There is a fact in Kimmich’s words: it’s not just about goals. But Kane, despite everything, was marked. After all, the English striker has been a shadow of what it was in the last games, completely absent, which forced Bayern playing almost with a fallen boy.

That is a big part of the story here. Kane is a world-class striker. But unlike his predecessor Robert Lewandowski, his lack of goals is more noticeable because he isn’t as complete a player as the Polish Barca star. Bayern might be able to compensate for his lack of contribution against Bundesliga sides, but in the Champions League, the Rekordmeister can’t afford to play with a man down.

The Leverkusen result and Kane scoring weren’t the only good news for Bayern today. João Palhinha and Josip Stanisic also made their comebacks from injuries. Those two comebacks are important given the injury to Canadian star Alphonso Davies and the fact that Leon Goretzka limped off with an ailment today.

“I’m very pleased that either of them are back,” Kompany said. “We are having very long weeks again. We never complained when things went wrong and we had injuries. Stani gives us an additional option. Like Aleksandar Pavlovic, who after an injury in the fall also showed up today.

This weekend has been excellent for Bayern. The Rekordmeister is now in firm control of the title race. The return of Kane scoring and a couple of players returning gives Kompany additional options at a time when the calendar becomes denser and the opponents tougher.

With all this in mind, Bayern still wants to keep an eye on the Bundesliga name race. But even there, this weekend proves decisive, and it seems that the Rekordmeister has taken a big step towards its 34th German championship.
