T-Mobile continues to advance in the market with the new Connected Workplace service.
Launched yesterday, the Connected Workplace is a new managed service aimed at medium-sized businesses with multiple locations. The carrier has partnered with Cisco to combine T-Mobile’s 5G network and managed services with Cisco’s Meraki cloud-managed networking devices and platform.
For medium-sized companies, building out networking infrastructure across multiple locations can be complex. It often involves cobbling together hardware, software and Internet service from various vendors with separate contracts and management systems. The goal is to make it easier for businesses to implement complete and secure connectivity across branches and retail stores. Connected Workplace consolidates this into a single solution with unified pricing and support.
“Connected Workplace combines all the must-have parts of a complete connectivity stack into a single service for businesses, so they don’t want to purchase them from other vendors,” a T-Mobile spokesperson told SDxCentral.
The connection starts with T-Mobile Unlimited 5G Business Internet, which is combined with T-Mobile’s controlled service.
5G Business Internet is a fixed and wireless technology. Business Internet provides the basic FWA connectivity for the broader Connected Workplace solution. Organizations have to turn to T-Mobile’s 5G network, adding its 5G Ultra Capability that includes 2. 5GHz mid-band 5G spectrum. T- Mobile has been showcasing the strength of its mid-range 5G features since at least 2022 with extensive policy across the United States.
With the connectivity in place, the Cisco Meraki ecosystem of cloud-managed devices can be deployed, which can include smart cameras, IoT sensors, gateways, points, and switches. Cloud-based security will be provided through Meraki’s firewall offering. Another critical detail of The Promise of Service is Cisco Meraki’s cloud control and dashboard capabilities.
In addition to combining 5G and Meraki hardware and software, T-Mobile will provide installation, configuration and control to minimize the load on internal IT equipment.
This includes design and on-site installation of equipment, proactive 24/7 monitoring and performance optimization, unlimited configuration changes and guaranteed 24/7 support. T-Mobile will also handle software license renewals and gateway access point upgrades every three years.
This is the first time Cisco Meraki devices have been incorporated into a T-Mobile offering.
In general, T-Mobile is also increasingly reliant on Cisco hardware. In January 2023, T-Mobile followed a cloud-native 5G number one gateway platform powered by Cisco. Then, in March 2023, the two corporations announced an initial offering that included T-Mobile Business Internet and Cisco Meraki 5G Gateway. The Cisco device was Meraki’s first 5G cellular gateway for FWA.
T-Mobile’s initial offering Cisco Meraki is now expanded with the Connected Workplace service that is sold, managed, backed up and billed through T-Mobile. The fundamental concept is to make it as simple as possible so that midsize organizations gain advantages. from FWA network connectivity with full security and control visibility.
“You can expect us to bring more features and controls to the device and we’ll have more percentages on that in the coming months,” the T-Mobile spokesperson said.
