About Kentucky Sports Radio (KSR)

Past

The sports media empire will have to be KSR in a basement. Matt Jones and Rob Gidel’s original concept, Kentucky Sports Radio, introduced in November 2005 as a blog and podcast, the latter recorded at Andrew “Hubby” Jefferson’s Basement. The mission: to provide University of Kentucky, football, and recruiting news in the most ridiculous way possible. Thanks to the evolution of the site and the birth of the hugely popular radio show, this mantra has remained essential, until a Ryan Lemond app notification laughs and images of Kentucky enthusiasts tossing 3 glasses around the world.

In the early years, KSR was mostly the musings of college friends who loved the Cats, and in turn, the blog developed a quirky cult following. Fans who wanted something different than traditional sports coverage followed along as Matt and his friends found their footing in the industry. In 2007, the recruitments of Patrick Patterson and Jai Lucas took the site to another level, with a new audience coming on board for daily updates. “Any news on Patterson or Lucas?” became a popular refrain across the state, and KSR’s growing popularity helped the site gain new footholds in the media world.

From there, KSR started uploading more writers because we all learned that this has become a thing. In 2008, KSR hosted its first “Who Needs to Be a Blogger” festival for aspiring writers. Tyler Thompson finished third. Two years later, Tyler joined the site as a component contributor, evidence that you are a component of the KSR family, never leaves. In August 2009, Drew Franklin entered a package with John Calipari, John Wall, and DeMarcus Cousins. The Calipari era has brought a new wave of expansion to KSR, while enthusiasts look towards as much content as they can only about the exciting new settings in Lexington.

KSR the radio show launched in August 2010, furthering the site’s exposure. Traffic on the site doubled in both page views and unique visitors. As a result, KSR added more writers and content, ensuring its foothold as the preeminent destination for Kentucky fans online.

KSR is controlled through Tyler Thompson, editor -in -chief of the site since 2018, and Drew Franklin, editor in chief, radio coanimator, podcasts and Jack of all trades. Nick Roush covers football with Freddie Maggard and Adam Lukett, Jack Pilgrim covers basketball and Zack Geoghegan covers recruitment in the two sports. Maria Taustine keeps the rolling site on the commercial side, with the help of Maggard in advertisement sales. Brent Winscott joined the team in 2021 to attend social networks, videos and networks.

KSR also has a giant of participants and part-time interns, adding to Bryan the intern, whose “rant and semi-regular divolms have caused choirs of” Bti stinks! ” Since 2007.

Future

Now, as a component of the ON3 network, KSR will continue to grow and in this new era of sports media. Not only has the component provided a much D user experience provided, but KSR now has access to national creatability and soon, the most productive recruitment database in the industry. The site continues to expand its video content and presence on social networks, while remains faithful to our roots with exclusive characteristics, the most recent news and a touch of humor. It is not bad for a blog born in a basement.
