“Jimmy Carter’s friendship taught me,” Biden shared, that “a strength of character is more than title or the power we hold.”
President Joe Biden delivered a eulogy at former president Jimmy Carter’s state funeral today, reflecting on his life and character.
“Through all of this, he showed us how character and religion start with ourselves and with others,” Biden said. “For our most productive, we share the most productive parts of ourselves: joy, solidarity, love, commitment. Not for the reward, but with respect, to the incredible gift of life, everyone bestowed upon us. To make every minute of our time here on Earth.
This morning, Jimmy’s grandson, Jason Carter and the son of Walter Mondale, also delivered the compliment and the son of Walter Mondale. Gerald Ford’s son did the same. In 2022, Biden that Carter asked him to deliver the fulfillment of his funeral.
None of Jimmy’s children spoke at today’s funeral, but they were all present.
Clergy members, prominent guests, especially the Carter family.
In April 2021, Jill and I visited Jimmy and Rosalynn through a day of Hotes in Plains, Georgia. We seek to see them. Rosalynn received us at the main door with her exclusive smile. Together in a space they had shared only about 77 years of wedding, a space of Red Rancho without pretensions reflects its modesty, more than any power champion.
We entered the living room where Jimmy received us as a family. That day, we were 4 of us in the living room and shared memories that lasted almost six decades.
A deep friendship that began in 1974. I was a 31 -year -old senator. And I was the first senator who left the Georgia doors, and perhaps the first senator, to support his candidacy for the president. With a support founded on what I am. The lasting attribute of Jimmy Carter: character. Character Character
Due to this character, I think it is destiny. Destiny, in our lives and, frankly, the fate, the life of the nation.
It’s an accumulation of a million things built on character that leads to a good life in a decent country. Life of purpose, life of meaning. Now, how do we find that good life? What does it look like? What does it take to build character? Did the ends justify the means?
Jimmy Carter’s friendship taught me, and through his life he taught me, a force of character is more than the name or force we have. It is the strength to perceive that all are treated with dignity, respect, that everyone, and I mean everyone, reserves a shot, not a guarantee, which is a blow.
We have the legal responsibility for not giving hate to the port of protection. And get up, my father told everyone’s greatest sin: the abuse of power.
It’s not about being perfect. Because none of us are perfect. We are all fallible, but it is about asking, do we strive to do things, the right things? What are the values that our minds handle?
Operate worry or hope. Ego or generosity. Do we show Grace? Do we stay religion when it is the maximum tested?Keeping religion with humanity and In America is a story in my opinion, from my point of view, the life of Jimmy Carter.
Story of a guy, to state the apparent that you have heard today wonderful and wonderful compliment that got here from a space without running water or electrical energy and rose to the height of power. The tale of a guy who either motivated and committed to making the words of his Savior and the ideals of this country a reality. The tale of a guy who never let ties and politics distract him from his project to serve and shape the world. The guy had character.
Jimmy held a deep Christian religion in God, from which his candidacy spoke and wrote.
Faith founded on commandments of scripture: Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and all thy soul. And love thy neighbor as thyself. Easy to say—very, very difficult to do. In his life, in this life, any walk of faith can be difficult. It can be lonely. But it requires action to be the doers of the world.
But that commandment is the essence of my point of view, discovered in the Gospel, discovered in many traditions of religion and discovered the very concept of America. Because the same adventure of our country is a natural religion walk. To do the job, be the country, we say that we are, let’s be the country, let’s say we are.
A country where everyone is created equivalent to the symbol of God and deserves to be treated our lives as well. You’ve never fully experienced this concept of America. We don’t shy away from that either, because the Patriots like Jimmy Carter.
Throughout his life, he showed us what it means to be practitioner of good works, a good and faithful servant of God and of the people. Today, many think he was from a bygone era. But in reality, he saw well into the future. A white Southern Baptist who led civil rights. A decorated Navy veteran who brokered peace. A brilliant nuclear engineer who led a nuclear nonproliferation. A hardworking farmer.who championed conservation and clean energy. The president, who redefined relationship with the vice president. Jimmy and I often talked about our dear friend Walter Mondale, we all miss very much. Together they formed a model partnership, collaboration and trust—both were men of character.
And as everyone knows, Jimmy Carter also established a style for post-presidency by making a difficult difference as a personal citizen in the United States, and I add, as everyone knows, worldwide.
Despite all this, he showed us how character and faith: start with ourselves and others. For our most productive, we percent the most productive portions of ourselves: joy, solidarity, love, commitment. Not because of the reward, but with respect, to the incredible gift of life, they all granted us. To make our time every minute here on earth, tell. It is the definition of an intelligent life. The life that Jimmy Carter lived, the greatest one hundred years.
For young people, whatever meaning and objective is to read the strength of the example of Jimmy Carter. The strange thing, however, comfortes me to know that he and his beloved Rosalynn meet again.
To the total of the Carter family, thanks. I mean that they sincerely pigs, either with the United States and the world. We all love you.
Jill and I appreciated our visits with them, adding the latter in their home. We have noticed Jimmy as he has been, in peace, life lived fully. An intelligent life with a purpose and a meaning, a character. Led through destiny. And full of the strength of faith, hope and love. Say it again: faith, hope, and love.
While returning to the plains, in Georgia, for his last rest position. You can say goodbye. In the words of the Micah Prophet, who admired so much until his last breath, Jimmy Carter, rightly enjoyed mercy, walked humbly. May God bless a wonderful American, a expensive friend and a man. That he gets up, lifts himself on the wings of the Eagles and buried in the breath of dawn. Shine like the sun. And hold you in the palm of your hand.
May God bless you, Jimmy Carter.
