Will the UK have to pay more in Mauritius for Chagos?

The British government turns out even more than before Mauricio for the agreement of the Chagos Islands.

In a landmark agreement in October 2024, the United Kingdom and Mauritius announced that the United Kingdom would transfer sovereignty over the Chagos Islands, an organization of approximately 60 islands in the Indian Ocean, to Mauritius and secure a 99-year lease for the British-UK military based in Diego Garcia, the largest island in the archipelago.

Maurice has now indicated that the British pass had agreed of lots of millions.

Going to Tuesday to Mauritanos deputies, Ramgolam said he had concluded a new agreement in the United Kingdom that is most favorable, according to the Daily Telegraph.

“The past package was negotiated very badly. It turns out that someone who did not know that inflation existed. [The agreement] will have to be resistant to inflation. What is the point of obtaining cash and then having part of it in the end?” Ramgolam says.

British government sources have told the Telegraph that the genuine charge of the deal is unknown because no one knows how inflation would look and accumulate the charge.

There are two other key concessions that Mauricio turns out to have received from the United Kingdom.

First, Ramgoam told agents that Mauricio would remain in place on the lease extension beyond 99 years, according to The Telegraph.

Previously, it had been reported that the UK can increase the 40-year lease through itself.

Secondly, Telegraph had reported in the past that the United Kingdom can download several years of payment in a section to Mauricio. The payment value in advance several years is expected to demolish the agreement for Mauricio.

The agreement of the Chagos Islands is in Limbo, because the administration of Donald Trump of the United States would oppose him. In addition, the agreement also opposed the United Kingdom. The conservatives nicknamed him a strategic error. The foot in the Chagos Islands and Diego García’s base are essential to determine China’s influence on the Indian Ocean region.

Lady PRI Patel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, nicknamed the “Epic Faula of Diplomacy” agreement in her criticisms.

“It turns out that Keir Starmer has surely learned nothing, and puts his misfortune with left appointment in the history of our country in our national security and our long -standing quotes with our closest ally,” Patel said, according to Telegraph.

Previously, Patel had the “economic level” agreement.

Patel said: “At a time when public spending is under wonderful pressure, it is also being registered to spend billions of pounds of taxpayers by renting a place lately under our sovereignty. And to raise insults to injuries, They are doing all this in secret, the labor ministers continue to refuse the main points to Parliament and the British public.
