Illinois-based sustainable fuel production and generation company LanzaJet has partnered with Illinois-based Marquis Sustainable Aviation Fuel to build a new 120-million-gallon incorporated sustainable fuel plant in Hennepin, Illinois, about 115 miles southwest of Chicago.
Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) produced at the plant will be shipped to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Chicago Midway Airport (MDW), the corporations announced in today’s announcement. The plant will be built on a 2500-acre commercial site. At the Marquis Industrial Complex. The site is adjacent to the Illinois River and is connected to a railroad line and several interstates, allowing for transportation options.
The plant design requires the use of low-carbon (CI) uncooked fabrics for the production of SAF and renewable diesel, as a component of LanzaJet’s reactor alcohol production process. -neutral commercial complex, with carbon capture and injection plans in situ. In line with this purpose, the new plant will use renewable energy for the production procedure and employ on-site carbon capture and sequestration, according to the statement.
The new site in partnership with Marquis is LanzaJet’s current SAF assignment to be announced recently. production of 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel consistent with the year 2023.
It’s unclear whether the corporations secured more investments for the Illinois plant and could not be reached before publication. LanzaJet and Marquis plan to begin designing paints for the Illinois plant this year.
Saf production and use are still negligible compared to traditional fuels, and several plants are planned in the United States, with Fulcrum BioEnergy’s existing sites in Nevada and World Energy in California producing less than 40 million gallons consistent with the combined year. Meanwhile, a RedRock biofuel plant planned for Oregon is now suspended until 2023, according to local media.
