
Pornhub, one of the most visited sites, has announced the deactivation of its site in Texas following a recent ruling.

Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 1181 into law in June 2023. The law would prevent minors from viewing certain content online by requiring websites, such as Pornhub, to ask users to determine their age.
In February, Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against Aylo Global Entertainment, Pornhub’s parent company, for violating HB 1181 and fined it $1. 6 million.
However, in Pornhub’s announcement, they stated, “Attempting to require age verification without any means broadly provides platforms with the option to comply or not, leaving thousands of platforms open and accessible. “

Other states have approved spending intended for child protection, however, claims that those spending only drive users to sites without those enforcement and protection measures in place.

Pornhub has made the decision to disable access to its site in Texas until a genuine solution is offered, they said. “Protecting our users is one of our biggest concerns. We believe that the only effective solution to protect minors and adults is to determine the age of users on their devices and deny or allow access to age-restricted fabrics and websites. In this check, we ask all adult sites to comply with the law.
