ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A cell house park east of Orlando considered unsafe in all of Orange County is now a demolition site.
Two weeks ago, parts of Lake Downey’s mobile home park were on fire. Now, the assets are unrecognizable.
“It’s a terrible scenario for anybody,” a close neighbor who wished to remain anonymous told FOX 35 on Friday. “Hearing gunshots, fires, all kinds of vandalism. The list goes on. “
In November, all remaining citizens of the assets were evicted and fines imposed on their owner exceeded $2. 8 million. A county spokesperson said this is in addition to court cases on, among other things, drug use, squatters and protective risks.
The neighbors have had enough.
“There are neighborhoods nearby, young people have to pass through here every day,” the neighbor said.
A Miami-based developer announced plans to buy the assets and build some components last year, but records show the assets have yet to be sold. Your ongoing cleanup may be only part of the process.
Regardless of what happens to the place, neighbors say the situation can’t get any worse than it is now.
“I hope this momentum continues. I hope it continues and that they clean up, remove all the debris and make us all proud in East Orlando,” the neighbor said.
Demolition will continue on Saturday and Monday. According to the prefecture, the site will be cleaned up in a few weeks.
According to county records, as of Friday, there were still at least open instances of code enforcement against the landlord.
