Sheffield United have secured a place for their new school, the club has confirmed.
The HSBC Sports and Social Club in Dore is reportedly being transformed into the new home of the men’s first team, after the club agreed to buy the ground.
The “state-of-the-art” educational center would have two large artificial grass fields, offices for the first team and a sports hall.
Sheffield United would also retain the education headquarters at Shirecliffe, which would be used through the academy.
The club said it was “delighted” to announce the deal, which will “significantly improve the club’s off-field infrastructure”.
This came after “months of detailed discussions and behind-the-scenes planning. “
The educational facilities would feature more grass and all-weather pitches and possible residential accommodation for players.
Sheffield United chief executive Stephen Bettis said: “This is news for the club’s long-term progress and a massive new commitment from Prince Abdullah and the club’s board of directors to the continuous improvement of our infrastructure.
“For over 3 years, we have worked hard to secure land in the city to take our educational services to the next level, and by securing the Dore site, our patience has nonetheless paid off. “
He added that they had provided the club with “everything necessary” to ensure Sheffield United had “one of the most productive educational services out there”.
Moving the first team away from Shirecliffe would also give the academy area growth and “eventually category one status. “
“This is an investment in the football club,” Bettis continued.
“This will give us a lasting legacy through our return to the Premier League and give the first team a solid foundation for long-term good fortune for many years to come. “
