Animals rescued after the earthquake in hopes of locating their owners

Japan’s Ministry of Environment and Ishikawa Prefecture said a series of puppy surveys were conducted immediately after the quake.

Dogs and cats rescued after the Great New Year’s Eve earthquake are being treated in public places and in public services in Ishikawa Prefecture.

The site includes photographs of dogs and cats, as well as main points about their appearance and aspects such as where they are kept. It also provides data on the fees charged for accommodating an animal in an establishment.

The usual payment for a dog or cat at a public shelter in Ishikawa Prefecture is 4,000 yen plus 400 yen for each day the animal has. The site explains that owners of puppies affected by the crisis will receive a discount or exemption.

At a press conference on February 13, Environment Minister Ito Shintar said, “Since the earthquake, support has been provided to puppy owners and their puppies, such as transitional daycare and transitional housing for homeowners and animals. We will also offer information about stray animals, which is for owners of puppies affected by the disaster.
