Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini said that the site will not use any AI artistic procedure of making content.
“No ai no ai in the artistic process, adding our actors in the voice. We as creators because they give a contribution to the story and intrigue it with their voice,” Purini said in an interview with Forbes. The Crunchyroll president added that the site is held with creators in Japan and elsewhere to try to maintain the authenticity of the production.
With the ever-increasing acceleration of AI technology, conversations about its use in the industry are still proportionate and can be a scare for both the audience and the creatives. We’ve already noticed the AI used in anime with the addition of anime resurfacing sites, and the news that an AI-AIA-generated anime showcase is in the Kaka technology studio.
However, Purini explained that the site will paint with AI in other ways, explaining that Crunchyroll plans to use AI for how users locate content, get recommendations, and get a more personalized experience. But Purini has made it transparent that all of this is for the service and experience of visitors, but possibly not touching the content itself.
Launched in 2017, Crunchyroll has the top popular position for streaming anime content. What started as an ad-free, subscription-free anime streaming site, Crunchyroll now offers ad tiers, so the audience can watch “a limited portion” of content.
