A former British heavyweight accepted a rude challenge from Tyson Fury and became embroiled in a bout with the Gypsy King at a caravan venue.
Before getting a familiar call thanks to his good luck in the heavyweight division, Fury struggled to find sparring partners. This led him in one instance to challenge other heavyweights in his own exclusive taste: a rude appeal on social media.
Matt Legg, who fought Anthony Joshua on the card of Froch-Groves 2 at Wembley, bravely answered Fury’s call and enjoyed his brief stint with Team Fury. Legg told the Daily Star: “I hadn’t boxed for a year and I hadn’t had any training, so I wasn’t very fit. It is at the moment that Tyson is at the British level.
“He posted on Facebook something like: ‘All you British heavyweights are all idiots, none of you will forgive me, let them fight me. ‘Someone told me that, so I went ahead and said, ‘I’m going to work out with you, how much do you pay?’ Because I’ll exercise or fight with anyone.
“He came back with ‘£10,000 if you can knock me out’. Then I asked him how much if he didn’t knock him out. It’s a pretty smart salary.
“I went to Manchester that day and he and his brother Shane picked me up at the exercise station and took me to the caravan site. We got ready in the gym, just the three of us, and then I went up and fought him. “
Even if Fury is not yet the dominant force we know today, Legg can still see that the Mancunian had a special talent. He added: “It’s an experience! It’s definitely at a different point than all the others.

“It feels like I’m on the other side of the ring and it’s still hitting you, it’s so high and so long. His boxing ability is so good. I think I punched him all over the mast and gave him a left hook. “the last lap. He just got rid of it and moved on.
“He’s so hard, so clumsy, so tall. I told everyone I would be world champion, I assure you, and he was a few years later. “
Legg got along so well with the Furys that he even returned for a second educational session and said, “He’s healthy. I came back a few years later and stayed on the site.
“I fought [Tyson’s cousin] Hughie [Fury]. Then Tyson arrived for the last lap. I thought, “Let’s go. ” He couldn’t even start hitting because of his footwork. I burst out laughing. At one point, I was throwing those quick shots, it was just fun.
