Derek Watt, a former guard for the University of Wisconsin and the NFL, will be the guest speaker at the Milwaukee High School Sports Awards, presented through Festival Foods. The event will be at 7 p. m. Friday, June 14 at the Riverside Theatre.
Tickets for the occasion are still available and can be purchased on the exhibition’s ticketing website. The exhibit is produced by U. S. Cellular, the Wisconsin National Guard and Boundless Adventures.
Watt was a sixth-round pick coming out of the San Diego Chargers, where he played from 2016 to 2019, and then played with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2020 to 2022. As a fullback, he made a huge impact as a blocker in running and passing situations, as well as being one of the most productive special group players.
Watt grew up in Pewaukee with his NFL brothers, J. J. and T. J. Watt. In Wisconsin, he helped Melvin Gordon break national, Big Ten Conference and Badgers records.
The Milwaukee High School Sports Awards event will honor more than three hundred of the region’s top high-altitude school athletes in more than 25 sports, as well as top coaches and teams. Several top awards will also be presented, including Female Athlete of the Year. , Male Athlete of the Year, Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Courage Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
