A significant accumulation of cash savings for shoppers as Amazon prepares to launch a new Irish that will “eliminate additional fees”

AMAZON bosses will launch a new Irish next year, a big boost for Irish shoppers hoping to save money on their purchases.

The new Amazon. ie promises “low local prices” that will further reduce customs tariffs.

Irish shoppers will be able to shop from a wide variety of more than 100 million products with “clearer” prices.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Peter Burke said: “I am very pleased to see Amazon continue to grow its presence in Ireland.

“The launch of an Irish store will make the visitor enjoy Ireland and provide a vital platform for Irish SMEs to expand their online presence and grow their businesses.

“This announcement is a significant reaffirmation of Amazon’s commitment to Ireland, and I wish each and every interested party success. “

John Boumphrey, Amazon’s Country Director for Ireland and the UK, said: “The launch of Amazon. ie will be news for Irish consumers and we look forward to opening its virtual doors in 2025.

“This underlines our continued commitment to Ireland and will bring a wide variety of high-value products with fast delivery to Irish customers, while also offering wonderful opportunities for Irish small and medium-sized businesses to succeed on a wider scale inside and outside the country.

More than 1,000 small and medium-sized businesses in Ireland are already promoting on Amazon, and those SMEs will generate more than €150 million in export sales in 2022 alone.

The new store will also be backed by a five-year deal announced last year through An Post and Amazon, which will allow for more convenient and faster deliveries and returns.

Darragh Kelly, Amazon’s Managing Director of Customer Processing in Ireland, said: “We already serve consumers across Ireland, to over 1,000 local businesses that sell on Amazon and are a major employer in Ireland.

“Our groups across the country are very excited about this next bankruptcy in our history and look to the future to deliver our new Irish store to our consumers in 2025. “

The online store follows the launch of Amazon’s first hub in Dublin in 2022, which created 500 new jobs.

It has enabled faster delivery to consumers across the country, seven days a week, one-day delivery for many items.

The company employs around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin and Drogheda and supports an additional 9,000 jobs in the wider Irish economy.

Amazon has invested more than €17 billion in Ireland since 2020, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) investments in cloud infrastructure have increased Ireland’s economic output by approximately €11. 4 billion over the past decade.

Michael Lohan, Chief Executive of IDA Ireland, added: “Amazon has been a major investor in Ireland for over 20 years.

“The launch of Amazon. ie is a demonstration of our commitment to its Irish operations. This strengthens the company’s existing strong Irish presence and will augment the benefits it has already brought to Ireland through the broad strategic business base it conducts here.

Earlier this year, Amazon released LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland, its first Irish Originals production, filmed in Ireland.

Prime members in Ireland will also be able to watch UEFA Champions League football on Prime Video from next season.
