49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has had a very different offseason this year.
He was a second-round pick looking to make the team in 2022 and had just undergone serious elbow surgery that kept him out of the box at OTAs last year. Being an established starter with no fitness issues was a new experience for him. At the 49ers’ “State of the Franchise” event on Monday, Purdy said he believes the experience has put him in for better luck in his third NFL season.
“We did all the way. We’re here and we couldn’t finish it,” Purdy said through 49ersWebzone. com. “So, for me, I had that taste in my mouth, and then I went back to the gym, it started slowly, running towards it. And then here at OTAs, we got [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan] together and we went through every game we’ve played, every single game, and we went over situational football and all that, and take that and go out there and execute things, represent them and throw them to receivers. Last year I didn’t have that, so now that I have to attack this kind of thing, I feel like I’ve improved.
The 49ers have appeared in two Super Bowls and two NFC championship games over the past five seasons and are still hoping for the same kind of luck in 2024. A better Purdy could end up being what gets them to the top.
