EUGENE, Oregon – FOOD For Lane County (FFLC) announces the return of its Summer Food Program (SFP), which offers free lunches to children under the age of 18 during the summer months.
This year, the program will run from June 24 to August 23. Seasonal workers serve food at more than 30 locations in Lane County, adding parks and networking hubs.
The food program operates Monday through Friday from 11:30 a. m. to 12:30 p. m.
Nutrition is essential for children’s well-being, as it promotes emotional, physical and intellectual health, the organization states, adding that a sufficient amount of nutrients is necessary for growth, potency and cognitive development.
“When young people are out of school during the summer, many families face difficulties without school breakfasts and lunches. Children want 3 meals a day, all year round. Hunger does not take vacations,” says Mtima Richardson, from the Youth and Family Program. Manager at FFLC.
SFP wants volunteers to prepare and pack food this summer. Morning and afternoon shifts are available, offering a flexible way to make a positive impact.
The changes will take place at Lane Community College.
“FFLC hopes to bridge the gap for families with limited budgets,” the organization says. “Every donation to FOOD For Lane County makes a tangible difference. For every dollar donated, FFLC can access and distribute two nutritious food items to “I Want. Please make a donation today to help fulfill this important desire in our community. “
