(CBS DETROIT) — Sports analyst and Detroit alumnus Tiger Craig Monroe is under investigation for sexual abuse allegations in Florida, according to police records redacted by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
The redacted records make the main points about the alleged abuse that occurred between 2001 and 2007, but show the sheriff’s office won a call on June 12, 2024, about an alleged sex crime in Port Charlotte, Florida. The sheriff’s office said an investigation is underway and suggested submitting information.
In reaction to the investigation, Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers posted a joint stating that Monroe was not in their broadcast schedule.
“Bally Sports Detroit and the Tigers are aware of the allegations on social media and are taking them seriously. As reported in the past, Mr. Monroe did not appear on the broadcast show and this will continue indefinitely. We will not have any additional comment. ” And any questions should be directed to Mr. Monroe,” it reads.
Monroe’s attorney, Michael Manley, released the following statement:
“Craig Monroe failed to follow through on those horrific and false allegations when they appeared on social media sites. Now that the mainstream media has chosen to report this misinformation, Craig still has no choice but to vehemently deny those claims. We will cooperate with law enforcement and are confident that once this matter is fully investigated, Craig will be cleared of any wrongdoing.
“Craig Monroe takes allegations of this nature very seriously and would never commit or tolerate such despicable conduct. He and his circle of relatives are shocked by these accusations and offer forgiveness and forgiveness to his accuser. We are confident that the authorities will find out the fact about his background and motives. “
The former Tiger began his MLB career with the Texas Rangers in 2001 before spending five seasons in Detroit in 2002. He also played for the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Monroe was a former studio analyst for Bally Sports Detroit before taking on the role of senior analyst in the 2023 season.
