LIMERICK and Emerald AC athlete Sarah Lavin will return to the track tonight, Tuesday at the 70th edition of Cork City Sports, which will take place at the newly reopened track at Munster University of Technology in Bishopstown.
At 7:45 p. m. , all eyes will be on Sarah Lavin as she looks to continue her recent form in the women’s 100m hurdles sponsored through Athletics Ireland. At last month’s Senior National 123. ie Championships, Lavin won gold in the hurdles and silver in the 100m. She will be joined on the court by 4 other athletes who broke the 13-second barrier, adding Talie Bonds (USA) and Ebony Morrison (Liberia).
This event will be an excellent springboard for Lavín, as he has his sights firmly set on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will begin at the end of the month.
Other interesting athletes who will compete on tonight’s occasion are Sophie, the daughter of Sonia O’Sullivan, who will compete in the 3,000 m race. At the same distance, on the men’s side, favourite Darragh McElhinney (Bantry AC) competes in the men’s 3,000m alongside Nick Griggs (Candour Athletics Club).
Tonight’s occasion will be broadcast on Youtube, you can watch the races here.
