NEW YORK CITY (WKRC) — A Delta Air Lines flight, with 277 passengers on board, made an emergency landing after passengers reportedly gained infected food.
According to the Daily Mail, Delta Flight 136 took off from Detroit, Michigan, and was en route to the Netherlands when the flight was diverted to New York’s JFK airport. A Delta spokesperson told the publication that the resolution was made after finding that component of the in-flight meal service had broken down.
Paramedics were at JFK airport to greet the plane after it landed for treatment, The Mail reported, adding that it was not yet clear how many passengers were fed on the spoiled food.
Delta’s spokesperson told the publication that its staff was investigating the incident and apologized to affected customers.
According to The Mail, the plane took off from Detroit’s Wayne County Metropolitan Airport around 11 p. m. on Tuesday and landed at JFK Airport on Wednesday around morning.
Delta told the publication that the flight team consulted with medical experts about the emergency diversion.
“Medical groups were on site to welcome the plane and treat the affected passengers and crew members. Delta groups will work without delay to collect data on how this incident occurred,” the Delta spokesperson told the publication. “This is not Delta’s service is known and we sincerely thank our consumers for the inconvenience and delays in their travel. “
