Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market celebrated the 20th anniversary of its first store in New York City by ringing the opening bell of the Nasdaq and announcing the location of its planned second small-format store in the city.
The 2004 opening of the Columbus Circle Whole Foods flagship store marked a critical milestone in the company’s expansion in New York City; The workshop now has 17 places and 5,000 workers in the city.
Earlier this year, Whole Foods introduced a smaller-format store, called Whole Foods Market Daily, that will pave the way for an exurban expansion. The first Daily store will open this fall on the Upper East Side at 1175 Third Avenue, and a second long-term location was announced at 301 West 50th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. Whole Foods also said in a statement that a third location in New York City would be detailed soon and that plans for a national launch of the concept would be detailed soon.

Whole Foods Market Daily Shop will seamlessly bring our high-quality organic and herbal foods to even more consumers in New York.

Whole Foods Market Daily outlets will offer a variety of fresh, seasonal produce, prepared foods, and necessities. The two planned locations in New York City will also feature Juice
Each small-format Whole Foods will have between 7,000 and 14,000 square feet, or about a quarter to a portion of the retailer’s typical 40,000-square-foot store space. The format is designed to supply consumers with fresh ingredients and with convenience suitable for urban lifestyles.
Whole Foods Market currently has more than 530 retail outlets in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, with more than 75 more retail outlets under development.
