BEIJING/ASTANA — On June 15, 2001, the heads of state of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan met in Shanghai. Together they announced the creation of a new regional on the Eurasian continent: the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The SCO is the only intergovernmental organization named after a Chinese city. It has become a key place for China’s cooperation with Central Asian countries and the entire Eurasian territory.
Over the past decade, Chinese President Xi Jinping has attended every SCO heads of state summit, adding via video conference to the COVID era. Within this multilateral platform, he shared his thoughts and proposals with other global leaders to ensure regional stability, achieve more powerful and not unusual progress, and contribute to a better world.
“A just cause discovers wonderful support, and an adventure with many partners goes a long way. “In Xi’s view, the progress of the SCO, which accounts for about a share of the world’s population and a quarter of the global economy, is in line with the trend of the times and is in line with human progress.
