Hosts Germany made a statement on the opening night of Euro 2024 by beating 10-man Scotland 5-1 in Munich, the biggest opening day victory in European Championship history.
Julian Nagelsmann took charge of a team that was suffering last September, when the four-time world champions were recovering from consecutive eliminations at the FIFA World Cup organizational level.
Not everything has been easy for the former Bayern Munich coach, but his team put in a performance full of skill and intensity at the Allianz Arena. It soon became apparent that Scotland had no chance of living with them.
Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz got the party that started in the 10th minute when he cut off Joshua Kimmich’s pass into the back left corner thanks to a decent hand from Angus Gunn. While the goalkeeper felt he had done more this time, he was hopeless. Nine minutes later, when Jamal Musiala, impossible to resist, stepped into Callum McGregor’s eye and went home after the elegant paintings of Ilkay Gundogan and Kai Havertz.

The latter two were worried when the Scottish night took a disastrous turn at half-time. Gunn was right to deny a header from Gundogan and when the Barcelona midfielder tried to convert the rebound, Ryan Porteous crashed into either of his feet.
A VAR review that resulted in a penalty and a red card is the only viable outcome. As Gundogan limped, Havertz stepped in to deliver the kick.
Niclas Fullkrug came off the bench to score the goal of the night for Die Mannschaft, an unfortunate own goal by Antonio Rudiger helped limit the damage to a minimum.
Germany had the last word, as a sloppy defence from a short corner allowed substitute Emre Can to complete the rout. Can was a late addition to this tournament after the retirement of Alexander Pavlovich; If Scotland do not particularly oppose Switzerland and Hungary in Group A, they will start prematurely.

All the dominant genius of Germany, who put in a great performance on the opening night of the tournament at home. For Scotland it has always been a blow in vain, but Steve Clarke has a huge task to do to rally his troops ahead of Wednesday’s match against Switzerland. Thanks for joining us.

80th minute: Robertson attacks after a header from Müller towards Kimmich at the far post. The return continues to Mittelstadt. Try to take an impressive shot and start again. Can comes on for Kroos.
78th minute: McKenna replaces Tierney.

Minute 67: Gilmour replaces McGregor, to close the door to an empty stable.
Minute 66: Kroos’ corner from the right grazes the edge of the area. Mittlestadt bets on a champagne ending and why not?But fly above that.
Minute 64: Sane goes straight into action, shoots early but fails to catch him. However, some other signs of concern.
Minute 63: Tah arrives late for Christie and is booked. Now it’s a double replacement that may force a few more Scots onto the couch. Sane and Fullkrug come for Wirtz and Havertz.
60th minute: Germany move the ball deliciously at the moment. It looks like a team of sensible players with an elite coach. Wirtz shoots from distance.
59th minute: McGregor steps in to block a shot from Gundogan after Musiala wreaks havoc again. A fourth purpose is imminent.
Minute 58: Musiala dances again. Scotland cannot live with him at all. The Bayern star returned the ball to Mittelstadt, whose cross was caught on Wirtz’s half-volley at the far post. I probably would have done better there.
57th minute: Germany takes its last corner. Gross takes aim from outside the box and saves the shot.
Minute 51: Rugier aims from afar. His shot bounced awkwardly and Gunn had to readjust to push it into the post.
47th minute: McGinn has the opportunity to take a loose shot into the German area from the left, but fails to clear the first man.
We get back on the line and there is a reset for both of us. Andrich, with a yellow card, gave way to Gross, while Hanley came in to attack the Scottish defense in place of lone striker Adams.
Christie has the finishing touch and takes the ball with frustration, summing up the emotions of a nation. Some observers begged Scotland to deserve the nervousness of their hosts on the first night, but Germany were electric and the situation may change. in a general humiliation.
Minute 45 1: GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Kai Havertz (pen)!!!!!
Havertz staggered his run, let Gunn pass first and inflicted his penalty in that direction. Three and easy.

Minute 42: Almost 3-0! Musiala’s ballistic dribble, which digs up Gundogan. The Barcelona midfielder sends the ball to Kimmich and continues his run towards goal. Gunn makes a great save. In the resulting stampede, Porteous collided with Gundogan. VAR will look for a penalty for Germany.
38th minute: Adams makes his presence felt and wins a loose shot about 40 yards from goal. Scotland will take the opportunity to get into the German box. The hosts emerge.
Minute 36: Scotland launches towards Adams. It’s no use, but at least they have Germany on their side for a few moments.
Minute 31: Andrich attacks McTominay. He recovers part of the ball, but there is a lot of force in the game and it is not the first time. The first yellow card of Euro 2024, however, is his.
Minute 27: The ball returns to Havertz, who manages to go through the wall, but it is a regime save for Gunn.
Minute 26: NO PENALTY! Replays show that the touch took place just outside the box.
Minute 24: Penalty for Germany! My God, this is happening at a safe pace in Scotland. Tierney and Christie landed at Musiala, but that may have been out of the ordinary. This will be reviewed.
Minute 19: GOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLLLL!!! Jamal Musiala
Gundogan turns in the box in a way that is impossible to resist as he does in the U-turn and slides a pass to Havertz. The Arsenal boy delays the game and sets Musiala up to unleash an unstoppable shot into the net. Gunn couldn’t have done nada. al about it.

It was a take-off for Germany and it was Bayer Leverkusen’s star of the season who scored the goal. Kimmich has too much area to place Wirtz on the edge of the box. It hooks into the left rear corner via a rather giant hand. of Gunn.

Germany throws the ball at us, pumps the ball into the Scottish defence. McGregor manages to break free.
2 minutes before kickoff: Speaking of emotional things, what a pair of hymns! Two interpretations that give you chills and we are in a position to do rock’n’roll.
5 minutes before kick-off: A great moment before the match, when the German captains, winners of the 1980 and 1996 European championships respectively, flanked Franz Beckenbauer’s widow Heidi on the pitch with the Henri Delaunay Trophy. Then there is a video tribute to Der Kaizer on the stadium screens. Things that are shaken.
10 minutes before kick-off: I guess everything is fine. The kind of popular David Guetta substitutes you get at those events those days. It lacks the seriousness of Andrea Bocelli in Rome 3 years ago, or the star force of Lenny Kravitz in the Champions League final the other week. Either way, it’s almost time to play football.

1 hour and 20 minutes before kick-off: Germany would be happy to take the opening match of Euro 2020 as the style for tonight. Italy won at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and swept Turkey 3-0, the Azzurri’s first step on the road to the end.
1 hour and 40 minutes before kick-off: team news will be coming to us shortly. It’s been a wonderful season for Kai Havertz. The former Chelsea striker struggled early on after joining Arsenal and played, oddly enough, as an experimental player. Nagelsmann’s left-back in the national team. However, Havertz established himself as Mikel Arteta’s first centre-back, scoring several heavy-handed goals as the Gunners propelled Manchester City to the end in the race for the Premier League name. get the nod for Niclas Fullkrug as centre-forward tonight.
2 hours before kick-off: Don’t you forget that start at the 1998 World Cup that we were talking about a little earlier?Well, that remained Scotland’s last successful attempt to qualify for a primary tournament until Euro 2020. Steve Clarke spearheaded that qualification attempt and oversaw a revival after a few decades in the foreign wilderness. Scotland are not the favourites tonight and will do well to leave an organisation made up of talented Swiss and Hungarian teams. But a midfield that features the talents of Scott McTominay, John McGinn and Billy Gilmour means they will be able to hold their own and give the roughly 200,000 spectators something to shout about.
2 hours and 20 minutes before kick-off: Germany’s recent record in primary tournaments has been dismal to an extent unprecedented in its history. Eliminations at the group level in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups added to a disappointing Euro 2020, where England eliminated them in the circular round. out of 16. But Julian Nagelsmann is positive about customers’ highly skilled team that will benefit from houseArray.
“I look into the eyes of our players and I see their conviction and their will to win,” the former Bayern Munich coach said at a pre-match press conference. “I need us to do it in ourselves. We have wonderful players, intelligent cohesion, home advantage, we have had an intelligent education and an intelligent mentality. We have it all. We just have to prove it tomorrow, and that’s why we accept it as true. very important.
2 hours and 40 minutes before kickoff: This attack is slightly reminiscent of the opening attack of a tournament from just over a quarter of a century ago. At the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, Scotland were pushed into the initial attack in front of one. of the most successful football nations of all time. César Sampaio gave Brazil the lead at the Stade de France before conceding the penalty that allowed John Collins to equalise. The tartan army seemed to be rushing towards a prominent point opposite protection. champions before Cafu burst into the box and forced an own goal from Tom Boyd.
3 hours before start: Yesterday the finishing touches were put on the educational consultation and, despite everything, we are in a position to start the European Championship 2024. Before that we will have the opening rite here in Munich.
