ASTANA – Chinese President Xi Jinping said Thursday that as a central platform for practicing multilateralism and promoting global governance, the role of the United Nations can only be strengthened or weakened.
Xi made the remarks when meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana.
No matter how the external scenario develops, China adheres to true multilateralism and supports the United Nations in its central role in foreign affairs, he said.
All countries in the world belong to a network of shared future, Xi said.
Noting that humanity’s shipping will not sail smoothly in the future, he said that foreign network paintings will have to work in combination to make sure that shipping sails in the right direction.
The Chinese side supports the UN Future Summit and hopes it will send a positive signal to uphold multilateralism, solidarity and cooperation and achieve more fair and moderate global governance, he said.
China also supports the United Nations in its leading role in promoting the reform of foreign monetary architecture and global governance of synthetic intelligence, Xi added.
Guterres said the existing external order, especially the foreign monetary mechanism, wants to be reformed to adapt to the evolution and conversion of the external situation.
The UN, he said, is in a position to make any and all efforts to promote the adjustment of foreign monetary architecture and global governance of synthetic intelligence, in order to make global governance more fair, more moderate and more conducive to the non-unusual. progression of emerging countries.
He thanked China for its support for the cause of the United Nations, its practice of multilateralism and its key and constructive role in promoting peace and progress in the world.
