CHARLESTON, W. Va. — Now there’s a new position where patients can access their immunization records online from anywhere.
The West Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Public Health has introduced MyIR Mobile, a new formula that allows patients to view their vaccination history and print their own official records.
WV DH Secretary Dr. Sherri Young said that in addition to making it easier for a user to see their own vaccine history and which vaccines they should recently receive, they will also be able to check which ones their children need.
“If you’re a parent or parent of a child and you’re coming up to school and you want to know if your kids want vaccines, or if you’re going to a doctor’s appointment and you want to know if your child is going to want vaccines at that time, that appointment, then you’re going to have a chance to look before the appointment and make plans,” Young said.
Young said the way the new formula works is that patient knowledge is pulled from the West Virginia State Immunization Information System (WVSISS).
He said the knowledge is then accessed from any computer or device through the MyIR portal, which Young said reduces the administrative burden on healthcare staff, as in the past it was their duty to keep track.
“It was an arduous task for health care providers to be guilty of this, to seek this. They will now play a vital role in this process, but it gives patients a chance to see when and where they finished getting vaccinated. they are in their process of physical care,” he said.
Young said that after the first case of measles appeared in the state in 15 years in April, he said the new portal would also be an efficient and effective way to track those rapid vaccinations and that it had left many adults wondering when. or even if they had already won a measles vaccine.
He said they had recently accounted for the time and money spent to treat a single case of measles in the state, after a total of 139 people who were in contact with the inflamed user had to be tested. Young said that MyIR portal would reduce all the time, money and effort it takes to locate this data in the future.
“Being able to go back and see if those 139 patients were vaccinated, if they were up to date, if they were fully vaccinated, is another opportunity because we have outbreaks and other things to know if you are in those cases. situations,” he said.
Young said patients can access the formula by accessing the MyIR online page and creating and activating an account.
Once a registered account has been verified, users will be able to view and print vaccine records upon request.
He said the portal is very easy to use.
“The vital component is that you have a two-factor authentication procedure so that people’s medical records are protected, however, if you go to the online page to download this and enter your two-factor authentication, it will take you directly to your vaccination. for you or for your children,” Young said.
Records provided by the portal will be accepted at all services that require proof of vaccination.
