Mercari, the peer-to-peer resale marketplace, opened its U. S. platform to Japanese distributors and opened its first physical store, on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.

The Mercari store in Melrose offers an engaging resale and networking experience where shoppers can view a variety of exclusive fashion pieces available in Mercari. com, in addition to a curated collection of Japanese products that will be on display during the month of August. It also includes an area for dealers to list parts for sale in Mercari, an area dedicated to DIY categories and events, and a pop-up area for spouses.

“We are thrilled to offer a booth for others to experience the magic of Mercari in person,” John Lagerling, CEO of Mercari U. S. , said in a statement. Our new store on Melrose brings to life what millions of consumers love about our market position. Our purpose is to offer a review of the varied variety of fashion novelties that can be found on Mercari and motivate concepts about what can be imagined with resale, all through an immersive showcase with friendly and welcoming service.

Mercari was founded in Japan in 2013 and introduced to the United States a year later. Today, the marketplace connects millions of people across the United States to buy and sell new and used parts. Now U. S. buyers will also have access to parts from Japanese sellers.

Mercari x Japan supplies directly to the stock of millions of distributors in the company’s Japanese market. U. S. shoppers can now browse Mercari x Japan for a huge variety of rare and hard-to-find items, adding men’s and women’s fashion, an expanded variety of sneakers, women’s bags, toys, Japanese collections, nostalgic figures, and electronics.

“This launch is the first time we have connected our U. S. and Japanese markets, allowing U. S. buyers to purchase parts from millions of dealers in Japan,” Lagerling said. “When we were thinking about the future of resale, cross-border food buying was the next critical step in Mercari’s evolution as a truly seamless global marketplace. Interest in Japanese fashion, toys, and collectibles has continued to increase in recent years and the strength of the U. S. dollar makes this the best time for our consumers to shop direct from Japan.

U. S. shoppers will be able to search for parts, ask questions, and complete their purchases on Mercari x Japan in English, and Mercari has partnered with The Beenos Group to simplify the overseas shipping process. All parts purchased in Japan will first be shipped to Beenos Group, where they will be inspected, ready for overseas shipment, and delivered directly to the buyer, approximately two weeks after the seller’s shipping date.
