Grab has acquired Chope, the Singapore-based restaurant booking platform, for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition will allow Grab to take over Chope’s operations in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.
In addition, Chope workers will be enrolled at Grab’s offices in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand in “a few weeks,” according to an internal email observed via Business Times.
Chope acquisition will enable Grab platform merchants
Reacting to Mothership’s questions, a Grab spokesperson said:
“The vast majority of merchants on our platform are small (and) medium-sized businesses that have the same resources or knowledge as giant food and beverage brands. “
Therefore, the addition of Chope’s products will provide more synergies to Grab’s business partners, helping them capture opportunities “online and offline,” the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, Chope’s discoverer, Arrif Ziaudeen, said Chope evaluated potential buyers and discovered the solution with Grab.
Arrif added that while the company had achieved a lot, in light of today’s “challenging and competitive” market, Chope will be looking for a partner to help it pursue new opportunities for “sustainable growth. “
In early June 2022, Grab purchased and relaunched HungryGoWhere food, along with accompanying social media channels.
At the time, Cifer Ong, Grab’s strategy and partnerships manager, said:
“Ultimately, we need to make Grab and our related brands the go-to source for consumers for the most productive food recommendations and F-brands.
