Spain vs Germany final score: Euro 2024 as Mikel Merino breaks the hearts of the host country in the Stuttgart drama

Mikel Merino broke Germany’s heart with a 119th-minute winner that robbed Spain of a 2-1 extra-time victory in a thrilling quarter-final in Stuttgart at Euro 2024.

The circular tie pitted the most productive team of the festival so far against the hosts and, despite falling to Dani Olmo’s wonderful goal in the 52nd minute, Germany were the better team for long periods.

Central talisman Niclas Fullkrug hit the post, but they had to wait until the 89th minute for Florian Wirtz to bring down Joshua Kimmich and cause chaos at the MHPArena.

Sanctions were coming. Germany have lost by the consequences since losing to Czechoslovakia and Antonin Panenka in 1976, while Spain were eliminated from Euro 2020 and the 2018 and 2022 World Cups by the fallout.

Luis de los Angeles Fuente seemed to have stolen momentum from his team with conservative substitutions after taking the lead, but one of those men, Merino, produced a moment that will resonate through the centuries. The Real Sociedad midfielder perfectly measured his run to head in a precise cross from Olmo.

Dani Carvajal has been sent off for a cynical foul on Jamal Musiala and captain Álvaro Morata will also miss the semi-final against Portugal or France after being cautioned amid the chaos of Merino’s goal celebrations. But Spain will have to get there Munich got tired when he thought that maybe they would not make it.

Kroos’ final kick in professional football ends in Simón’s arms and Spain advances to the semifinals of Euro 2024. Luis de los Ángeles Fuente’s team was the most productive of the tournament, but today it was in second place. However, over the last decade, La Roja has been accused of not being able to achieve bad victories. That’s what they did here and Mikel Merino produced a moment that will go down in his country’s football folklore. They will face the winners of the next match between Portugal and France. Thanks for being with us.

120 6 minutes: Expulsion of Dani Carvajal!  We continue and it gets more and more chaotic. Carvajal desperately knocks down Musiala to get the moment of caution from him. Germany will send an additional ball into the area.

120 four minutes: Olmo was there today, but why didn’t he take it out in the corner? One last replacement for Germany.   Fullkrug misses it!  Surely that’s it?

120 2 minutes: Germany will have to do it now. Fullkrug wins one in the box, bodies everywhere, Kimmich’s shot is blocked. Now Torres breaks. He can finish but he cannot locate the end.

119 minutes: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! Mikel Merinos!!!!!!!

Spain won it!!!! Oh Lord!!!!  Luis de los Ángeles Fuente’s team struggled at times since Olmo’s first goal, and his substitutions seemed to backfire. But one of them has booked a plos angelesce in the semi-finals. Olmo with the swinging center and Merino buries it.

117 minutes: Fullkrug again! He crosses Nacho to send a header towards the goal that Simón stops well. He is a force of nature.

109 minutes: Torres goes deep with a Spanish corner and Germany clears Laporte’s header. Wirtz takes it magnificently, Musiala asks for the back pass but waits for Fullkrug, who rushes.

106 minutes: Germany need a penalty when Musiala shoots into Cucurella’s hand. But it is close to its framework and common sense prevails.

Fifteen minutes to avoid penalties. Spain have gone out of each of the past three major tournaments on spot kicks.

This could possibly be a result of the fact that both groups made the six substitutions they were assigned, but this part lacked fluency.

105 1 min: Even closer to Wirtz! Müller finds him on the edge of the area. The shot goes wide of Simon but also goes just wide of the post.

Minute 104: Oohhhh, not from Oyarzabal, who bounces off a tense Neuer and off the left post. The German goalkeeper wasn’t sure he had covered that up.

102 minutes: Arrival of Spanish striker Joselu, born in Stuttgart. Hello, history. . .

101 minutes: Musiala comes and goes with Wirtz. Simon misses the cross, there is a minor chaos but Spain survives.

97 minutes: Naturally, I’m feeling more thoughtful now. Wirtz goes to the right and Carvajal clears his cross.

Here we go again. Anton replaces Havertz, meaning Germany once again has a general number of defenders on the field.

We’re going to overtime. Spain came extraordinarily close to glory thanks to Dani Olmo’s wonderful goal, but Florian Wirtz had other ideas. There will be part of the hour and all the momentum will be on Germany’s side.

90 Four minutes: Müller’s cross crosses the goal, Fullkrug cannot. On the way back, ah, and Müller could have won there!  Was he offside?

90 min: There will be 4 minutes of added time. De los Angeles Fuente has used his team in the tournament, but he actually regrets having Williams, Lamine Yamal and Morata back in the sheds.

89 minutes: GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Florian Wirtz!!!!

It happens and Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz takes us to extra time. Mittelstadt throws a cross from the left, Kimmich approaches the post and Wirtz drills the turf and goes off the post.

88 minutes: The penalty corner was cleverly taken, but Mittelstadt blocking a shot from 25 yards may not have been the plan at this point.

87 minutes: Havertz sends a cross to the mouth of the goal, Fullkrug beats but Carvajal has to break through the backline.

86 minutes: There’s some stupid stuff in the box. Kroos discovers Havertz on the second attempt. Simon makes a good save but referee Taylor detects a foul.

85 minutes: Carvajal pushes Fullkrug and Germany gets a loose shot that pleases Kroos, 30 meters from the goal to the left of D.

83 minutes: Oohhhh, close to Havertz but I’ve faced Wirtz. Simon has one of those two-minute animated spells that he can cast. It is a terrible clearance, the Spanish goalkeeper comes out of his area and Havertz clears the crossbar with his chip.

82nd minute: Simón, the last player to waste time.

80 minutes: De los Ángeles Fuente brings on Oyarzabal and Merino for Morata and Williams. Preserving the 1-0 in the match decision for Spain while Muller replies angeles to the central defender Tah. Buckle up!

77 minutes: Fullkrug hits the post!  Kimmich discovers Wirtz under Cucurella’s intern. The cut is slightly from Fullkrug, who struggles with Nacho but slides to convert a low shot that goes wide of the right post.

74 minutes: Torres goes over the loose shot, Laporte returns it to the danger zone from the far post. Germany escapes and Torres knocks down Musiala, rugby style. Yes, it’s a yellow card.

Minute 73: Torres gets on his bike on the right. Mittelstadt commits it crudely. Another player who will miss the semi-final if Germany recovers.

72 minutes: Now Fullkrug goes out. No more than part of an opportunity.

71 minutes: Fullkrug stands in the way of returning to the Spanish team and Carvajal has to make a tentacular block to deny Havertz. Suddenly, full-time is far from Spain.

70 minutes: Brilliant save from Simon!  Fullkrug with game ahead after Havertz’s fall. He hands it off to Andrich, whose run into the back corner is prevented by Simon down to his left.

68 minutes: Germany takes a free kick and looks to break, Musiala throws the ball up the field and passes it to Simon.

67 minutes: Kroos, less than an hour from the end of his fabulous career, is forced to receive a yellow card for the team after bringing down Olmo.

62 minutes: Ferran Torres prepares to come on when Cucurella concedes a German corner. Lamine Yamal makes way for the player.

60 minutes: Andrich makes a pass to Wirtz, who takes aim from outside the box. The shot is deflected backwards. A worthy destination for Germany.

57 minutes: Double substitution for Nagelsmann, direct change at left-back, Mittelstadt replaces Raum. Gundogan is replaced by Fullkrug, which means Havertz will return to tenth position and the imposing Borussia Dortmund striker will lead the line.

56 minutes: Andrich hits Williams and is reserved, making him the player excluded from a hypothetical semifinal.

55 minutes: Rodri intervenes to make a good tackle on Musiala on the edge of the area. Spain at the other end, Williams and Lamine Yamal combined but Germany fell back.

54 minutes: Germany look to strike back immediately, with Raum keen to atone for his role in the goal. His cross is smuggled near Musiala.

52 minutes: GOOOOOOOOOALLLLLL!!!! Daniel Olmo!!!

Advance for Spain! Morata puts a pass for Lamine Yamine in the channel. Germany gave too much area to the teenage winger and stayed in front of Olmo, who measured his run perfectly and shot low over Neuer.

47 minutes: Brilliant centre-forward play by Morata, who gets ahead of Rudiger to intercept a pass from Yamal, turns and shoots over the crossbar.

46 minutes: Wirtz presents himself to Laporte pressing the Spanish centre-back and grabbing him by the ankle. It was a mistake but indifferent on the part of Laporte and he was lucky to be caught.

We went out on the road again. Nacho replaces Le Normand in the Spanish defense, while Germany has a double replacement, Can and Sané make way for Andrich and Wirtz.

0-0 at halftime. It was an interesting and fast-moving contest; It can also be safely said that it did not live up to expectations. There Germany is a clear plan to mistreat Spapin’s dazzling creatives and prevent his midfield from developing a rhythm. These have proven to be effective tactics so far in a game with few transparent cutting opportunities.

45 minutes: Lamine Yamal shoots from distance and Neuer saves. There will be two minutes of stoppage time.

39 minutes: It’s frenetic, both groups give the ball away more than expected. Havertz is the last culprit and Olmo steps forward to unleash a low shot. Neuer overtakes him and it is possible that Morata will not readjust to reach the rebound.

36 minutes: Williams intervenes to force a save from Neuer near the post, but the flag is up. The Athletic Bilbao winger went too early when Ruiz slipped the ball to him.

35 minutes: Good luck for Havertz!  :The Norman completely misinterprets Rudiger’s long ball. Havertz carries it magnificently to his chest, but does not stop screaming. Simon makes a brutal save.

30 minutes: The Norwegian is the next player in the book, he will miss the semi-finals if Spain qualifies. A festive affair.

28 minutes: Raum enters the e-book for a foul on Carvajal. Williams’ loose shot is partially cleared, Olmo receives part of the ball and a piece from Gundogan while trying to shoot and it is a foul.

27 minutes: Spain look uncomfortable under pressure from Germany from set pieces, but they come back, with Williams breaking away from Sané and sending a beautiful ball into the centre of Array’s dominance. Unfortunately, no one is there.

25 minutes: Kroos delivers, Tah fails to get on his head.

Minute 24: Morata chases Kimmich and takes him away. A classic example of defenders fearing a striker will return to protect, as Germany now have a loose shot in a convenient position on the right.

21 minutes: Now Germany does anything as Gundogan extends the play to Kimmich. It’s a great cross from the Bayern Munich player, a little floating, and Havertz’s header goes past Simon.

17 minutes: Spain got in order after Raum’s incursion down the left. Olmo moves them forward. An area of concern opens up from the German point of view before Ruiz leaves the area.

15 minutes: Ooohhh, Williams throws him around the nearest wall and right next to it.

14 minutes: Germany is really going to impose its physicality on Spain, but Rudiger is an idiot, who is grouping himself in Olmo. He is cautioned, he will miss the semi-finals if Die Mannschaft passes and finds himself in a dangerous position.

11 minutes: Havertz brings Raum in on the left, but his cross misses and Simon grabs it with his stomach.

7 minutes: Pedri is down and doesn’t look in excellent shape. De le Fuente is furious. This seems like an early change. Dani Olmo comes into play.

4 minutes: Here’s a little bit of Real Madrid on Barcelona when Kroos collides with Perdri. Failure and nothing more. Spain is reprimanded and De La Fuente is furious on the sidelines.

2 minutes: Clumsy encounter between Can and Cucurella and the Spaniard wants attention before he can continue.

We are on the right track and Spain is getting to work. Williams came in from the left wing and the ball was returned to Pedri, whose brilliant shot from the edge of the area stopped Neuer.

Five minutes before kick-off: the groups emerge into the sweltering heat of Stuttgart. It’s hymn time.

20 minutes before kick-off: German defenders and full-backs Kimmich and Raum in particular will have a task tonight in front of Lamine Yamal and Williams. One statistic that highlights their importance is that Spain averages 26. 3 shots per game (via Opta), more than any other team at Euro 2024.

40 minutes before kick-off: Emre Can was not even part of Gerguyy’s starting squad for Euro 2024, as the experienced defensive midfielder was called up after Aleksander Pavlovic’s late retirement. The Borussia Dortmund boy has obviously inspired in the camp. He finished the scoring as Gerguyy beat Scotland 5-1 in his opening match, the first of three substitute appearances in the competition. Can now has the important task of trying to alter Spain’s imperious engine room.

1 hour before kick-off: This is the selection of Spain. It is not surprising that this is the team with which we are going to be the most productive eleven in the competition. Pedri rejects Dani Olmo’s strong claims to be a starter.

Nico Schlotterbeck falls on the bench despite his impressive absence. Leroy Sané maintains his position in the front three ahead of Florian Wirtz, while Emre Can is a wonderful inclusion ahead of Robert Andrich at the base of the midfield.

1 hour and 20 minutes to go: Germany faced Spain in the hosting phase of the World Cup in Qatar, but this is their meeting in the European Championship since the final of Euro 2008. A goal from Fernando Torres made the difference between the organizations and began Spain’s streak of 3 consecutive victories in primary tournaments. The 2010 World Cup was their best moment and they beat Italy in the final of the 2012 European Championship. Today could be the beginning of a dynasty for one of those sides.

1h40 before the start: this is on the right side. In moderate terms, those two were the most productive groups of the tournament. Some of the brilliance went to Germany after drawing with Switzerland and beating Denmark, but they are still a team of great talent. host country with a true elite coach like Julian Nagelsmann. Spain dazzled with 4 wins out of 4, with wingers Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams being the stars of the tournament so far.

2 hours before kick-off: Hello and welcome to The Sporting News’ Spain vs Germany policy! We reached the quarterfinals of the tournament and until the end of tonight we will have our first set of semifinals. The winner of today’s match will face either Portugal or France.

These quarterfinals of Euro 2024 will start from the MHPArena on Friday, July 5 at 6 p. m. Stuttgart local time.

Here’s how this era came to some of the world’s major territories:

Spain welcomed all of their core players to secure a win against Georgia after resting 10 of them in the last organisational-level match against Albania.

Nacho Fernández and Ayoze Pérez, who had physical problems, did participate in this match but return to the starting eleven.   Dani Olmo convincingly defended a start in Plos Angelesce, but Luis de los Ángeles Fuente naturally kept the religion in Pedri.

Spain line-up (4-3-3): Simón (GK) – Carvajal, Le Normand, Laporte, Cucurella – Pedri, Rodri, Ruiz – Yamal, Morata (c), Williams.

Germany, on the other hand, brings back Jonathan Tah after his suspension to sign Antonio Rudiger in central defense. Julian Nagelsmann’s other possibility is a slight surprise, with Emre Can replacing Robert Andrich at the base of midfield.

David Raum continues at left-back, but Florian Wirtz has to settle for a place on the bench while Leroy Sané continues in the more sensible trio.

Germany XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer (GK) – Kimmich, Rudiger, Tah, Raum – Can, Kroos – Sane, Gundogan (c), Musiala – Havertz.
