Payment of reparations caused by the hyperinflation crisis had to be resumed, but Stresemann’s decisive moves in the fall of 1923 earned Germany the sympathy of close allies. During the First World War, starting in 1917, the allies were Great Britain and France. Russia, Italy, Japan and the United States. During World War II, the Allies first included France, Poland and the United Kingdom, but were joined by the USSR and the United States. France was defeated in 1940 and other nations joined the group. However, Italy and Japan were enemies. They agreed to renegotiate payments, resulting in two new payment plans over the next five years:

The years 1924 to 1929 have been called the “golden years” of Weimar; Historians disagree about the extent to which the German economy recovered from the effects of World War I and hyperinflation.
