POCATELLO – A traditionally significant church is fodder for its next festival in a new advertising kitchen.
The Greek Orthodox Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pocatello will hold its annual Greek festival on August 24. It will take place from 11 a. m. to 7 p. m. m. in a new “state-of-the-art” kitchen at 518 North Fifth Avenue.
“(We are) very proud of it,” Father Constantine Zozos said.
The kitchen, in the social hall near the churchyard, is more than a hundred years old and is designated as a National Historic Site.
It is not yet finished, but other people will be able to stop at the festival works.
Zozos expects the new kitchen to be ready in about a week.
The church is adding money to register for the festival, bringing the total to five, serving two lines. Part of north Fifth Avenue and Wyatt Street will be closed due to a zigzag line to the church.
Zozos explained how delicious Greek food is, noting that around 6,000 tourists stop over during the festival year.
“Greek food is natural, earthy, and tastes great. Ask who’s coming back,” Zozos said.
People can eat “all they want of Greek food. ” This includes roast lamb, Greek sausages, gyro sandwiches and many other dishes.
There will also be desserts, including ice cream, Scoops N’ Sliders and Greek pastries.
“This is Greek food on this side of the Mississippi,” Zozos said.
Around 10,000 cakes are ready for the annual festival. Before adding this new kitchen, they had to climb the stairs from the lower hallway.
“Now it will be much easier,” Zozos said.
The Greek Orthodox Church revived the festival in 2011 after suspending it. The first one that was celebrated through the Church dates back more than 30 years ago.
“It’s a family matter,” Zozos said. “We can’t wait for everyone to come sign up and be Greek for a day. ” »
Community leaders will serve festival attendees.
