New ‘Opportunity Center’ in Fairfield to provide on-site skills training and other resources to those in need

FAIRFIELD, Ohio — There’s a new resource in Fairfield for neighbors to reach their full potential.

On Thursday morning, there will be an inauguration rite for the grand reopening of Goodwill on Dixie Highway.

The workshop has been revamped to create an area for Southwest Ohio’s first “Opportunity Center,” which will offer on-site homework education and other network resources.

When construction reopened, shoppers took cover around the construction waiting to get in and load their carts.

“In this economy, who needs to spend $100 on a blouse?” said Daniela Lopez, who was waiting in line. “I mean, you can literally go to the mall and find a blouse for $56 and you can come here and find one for $5. 49. “

The Fairfield Goodwill has undergone a complete transformation in recent months.

“Since the redesign, there’s a lot to buy,” said visitor Tammy Bentley.

Executive Director Mark Hiemstra said Thursday’s turnout shows how wonderful the need is for more features in the community.

“As costs and price needs increase, other people want better-paying jobs,” Hiemstra said. “And the truth is that first we have to stabilize their fundamental desires, that is, to find food, shelter, security. “

Right next to the mall, they will be able to take it a step further and connect others with the resources they need to succeed.

“There are two genuine tactics to get out of poverty: through painting and education,” Hiemstra said.

Ohio Valley Goodwill will soon provide painting and education and barriers for Fairfield community members.

“What we hope to do and what we’re going to do is teach other people so that they have the roles or certifications to be able to scale,” he said.

In addition to job education and employment support, job education will be available for people with disabilities, veterans, and people experiencing homelessness.

Many members of the network came to see some of the opening day offers.

“It’s like if I bought it for the first time, I only pay a fraction of what they pay,” Bentley said.

The retail section opened just in time for the start of the school year, while the opportunity center is expected to open in the coming months.
