The ancient city is identified as one of the sites where relations between Japan and Viet Nam began more than 400 years ago, with a thriving trade partnership in the commercial port of Hoi An.
To maintain those relations, the central city has recently made efforts to foster friendship, cooperation and exchanges in multiple fields with Japanese partners and communities, adding a cultural exchange program.
Nguyen Van Son, chairman of the Hoi An People’s Committee, highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two countries, as well as their not unusual history, culture and customs.
“Continuing the adventure of more than 400 years of history, the relationship between Japan and Hoi An City has been nurtured for generations through cooperative activities in many fields established between the city and Japanese organizations and localities,” he said.
“On this occasion, a rite was held to inaugurate the recently completed renovation of the Cau Pagoda. This is a strong testament to cooperation in the field of cultural heritage conservation and a bridge connecting the friendship between Hoi An and Japan,” Son added.
