BEIJING, June 16 (Xinhua) — China’s rail passenger numbers reached a record high of about 2. 52 billion in the first seven months of 2024, up 15. 7 percent year-on-year, according to information released Monday by the country’s rail operator.
China State Railway Group Co. , Ltd. reported that an average of 10,434 passenger trains were operated daily during the period, a year-on-year increase of 10. 6%.
In the first seven months, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed line recorded about 15. 38 million cross-border passenger trips, a year-on-year increase of 54. 7%.
During the same period, the China-Laos railway made about 139,000 cross-border passenger trips to the company.
The company said that since the beginning of 2024 it has exploited the potential of its passenger transport capabilities by opening new rail lines and optimizing rail operations.
