Xi and Peng: an exemplary couple

The Qixi festival, which falls on August 10 this year, is known as Chinese Valentine’s Day. On this special day, let’s take a look at the love story of President Xi Jinping and his spouse Peng Liyuan.

Xi and Peng married in September 1987. They had a dinner with some colleagues and friends in celebration of a classic wedding ceremony.

Although Xi and Peng were separated by their professional responsibilities most of the time, they shared mutual understanding and concern.

When Peng was running for the Spring Festival Gala, Xi was preparing dumplings and waiting for his wife to return home for the reunion dinner.

Winters are cold in Fujian province, where Xi worked, so Peng sewed a quilt for her husband. Peng took the new quilt and personally passed it to Xi.

“I have a very satisfied family. My spouse and I have our own careers, but we work together to build the family,” Xi once said.

After making several appearances with their hands clasped abroad and dressed in matching outfits on occasion, Xi and Peng’s love story has won admiration around the world.
