Warner Bros. Discovery has removed Cartoon Network from the internet in its most recent attempt to consolidate its large library and large number of Max subscribers.
Cartoon Network’s online site has in the past hosted several showcases and music videos, with full episodes of Adventure Time, Teen Titans GO! and several other classics and animated series. Now, the online page features a message inviting users to stream Cartoon Network systems on Max.
“Looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Find out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required). Sign up for Max, where you can also create a child profile with more score restrictions and privacy protections to make it fun and kid-friendly. ” reads the message.
A Cartoon Network spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly: “We are focusing on Cartoon Network screens and social media, where we see consumers having the most engaged and meaningful expansion potential. “
The spokesperson also noted that Cartoon Network programming can still be streamed through connected apps and cable TV, where enthusiasts can “enjoy 11 hours of their favorite Cartoon Network series from 6 a. m. to five p. m. ” each and every day. “
This comes just days after Warner Bros. Discovery also shut down streaming service Boomerang, which featured older animated series like Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones and Courage the Cowardly Dog.
The Boomerang app also includes a message for which it is indexed on the Cartoon Network website.
“Starting September 30, 2024, the Boomerang app and online page will no longer be available,” the streamer announced. “Starting September 30, you’ll be able to stream fan-favorite Boomerang shows, plus the full catalog of iconic series, hit movies, new originals, breaking news and family favorites. ”
Boomerang subscribers will migrate to Max’s ad-free subscription for six months for the same value as a Boomerang subscription at $5. 99 per month.
It seems that the company is consolidating all of its animated content into a single streaming library. The company recently announced a huge net loss of nearly $10 billion.
Warner Bros. Discovery underwent a corporate restructuring in 2022 in which the company merged Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, the entities percentage-wise “lead production and progression teams. “
