A spokesperson for the New Zealand Anti-Drug Foundation said the candy contained a deadly amount of methamphetamine.

A charity in New Zealand distributed methamphetamine candy to homeless people.

Auckland City Mission, the organization involved in the crash, learned of the case Tuesday when several more people complained after eating pineapple candy, USA Today reports.

According to the New Zealand Drug Foundation, one of the candies was taken Tuesday to a drug clinic in Auckland, where it was found to contain 3 grams of methamphetamine.

“A typical swallowable dose is between 10 and 25 mg, so this infected pacifier contained up to three hundred doses,” said Sarah Helm, executive director of the foundation. “Swallowing that much methamphetamine is incredibly harmful and can lead to death. “

He added: “We don’t know how prevalent those infected lollipops are, so we suggest you don’t eat pineapple lollipops with the Rinda logo if you have them. “

Symptoms of methamphetamine use can present with chest pain, central palpitations, seizures, hyperthermia, delirium and loss of consciousness, according to the pharmaceutical foundation.

The Auckland City project apologized on Wednesday and posted a statement on its official website.

“We discovered that several lollipops containing methamphetamine had been donated to the Mission through an unknown member of the public for distribution,” the report said. “Rinda Logo Pineapple Lollipops come in a sealed retail size package. “Then distribution took over from our food protection site. ”

The charity says it is “deeply concerned” and that police are currently investigating the matter.
