Xi mourns the leader of the Communist Party of Viet Nam at the embassy (Xinhua)

BEIJING (Reuters) – Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the Vietnamese embassy on Saturday to mourn the death of Viet Nam Communist Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong, official news firm Xinhua reported on Saturday.

Trong died Friday after 13 years in Vietnam’s toughest position, overseeing immediate economic growth, a years-long anti-corruption campaign and a pragmatic foreign policy.

Trong hosted Xi and US President Joe Biden in Hanoi last year, strengthening relations with the two countries despite emerging tensions between the US and China.
