Bytes: Weekly Review: X vs. Advertisers, Instagram’s Harassment Problem, and the Race for Food Delivery Continues

On today’s show: Instagram is known for its cute photos, however, a new report shows that it leaves a lot of ugly and abusive comments on the platform. The study, published this week through the Center for Countering Digital Hate, found that social media failed to act on 93% of abusive, sexist and racist comments directed at female MPs on both sides of the aisle.

Instagram’s parent company, Meta, says it provides equipment to help users comment on their posts and is recently reviewing the CCHR report.

In addition, DoorDash has long dominated the food delivery race, but recent projects through corporate ridesharing Uber show that the festival is intensifying.

Marketplace reached out to Meta to learn about the company’s reaction to the CCHR report. In an emailed statement, Cindy Southworth, director of women’s safety, said:

“We offer tools that allow everyone to control who can comment on their posts, automatically remove offensive comments, expressions or emojis and automatically hide comments from others who don’t follow them. We work with many security partners around the world to continuously monitor our policies, equipment, detection, and enforcement, and we will review the CCHR report and take action against any content that violates our policies.
