A tragic turn of fate at a waterfall tourist site in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has heightened travel protection considerations in the peak summer season.
On Saturday, one user died and 60 others were injured, one of them seriously, when a treadmill-like contraption failed at an entertainment center called “The Magic Carpet Project” at the site of the Detian waterfall in the county. from Daxin, Chongzuo. 200-meter ribbons, designed to transport travelers from the foot of a mountain to the lowest part of a hill, while offering a view of the surrounding landscape.
The local government reported that the connector between the two sections of the belt had broken. This caused the belt to slip and the other people who were hospitalizing him to roll downhill, which caused injuries and a death.
The waterfall site manager, who is also guilty of the operation and maintenance of the facility, was arrested.
Local authorities have suspended operations at the site and are conducting a thorough investigation. The injured are receiving treatment.
There have also been other fatal twists of fate involving travelers recently. In July, three other people were killed and four injured in a car accident in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. And in June, two travelers drowned in a river in Shiren Canyon, a deserted site in Taizhou, Zhejiang province.
Li Wenxuan, 36, a designer from Beijing, said the reports worried her.
“My family always travels in the summer to introduce my daughter to new cultures and landscapes,” he said. “Despite careful planning and our most productive efforts to avoid potentially harmful events, unforeseen injuries can still occur, especially with the influx of visitors in the peak season. “
Cai Miao of the Tuniu portal said popular summer activities such as swimming, rafting and snorkeling, especially in rivers and lakes, carry inherent dangers that have been exacerbated by seasonal torrential rains.
Cai urged travelers to book with legal agencies and purchase insurance. He stressed the importance of assessing risks and avoiding high-risk activities during the summer.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued a recommendation last month, advising travelers to monitor weather forecasts to avoid natural errors such as landslides and flooding. The ministry also advised that students participate in outdoor or high-risk activities only if their physical condition allows it and follow the recommendations of health personnel and the local government in case of an emergency.
