Germany reached the quarterfinals of Euro 2024 after beating Denmark 2-0 with a dominant second half in Dortmund.
A converted penalty via Arsenal’s Kai Havertz and a brilliant finish from Jamal Musiala saw Julian Nagelsmann claim victory and advance to the quarter-finals.
During the first half, Germany was much bigger before referee Michael Oliver suspended play due to a storm that surrounded Signal Iduna Park.

The England referee took the groups off the field in the 37th minute after being struck by lightning. A heavy downpour followed as players and officials made their way to the tunnel.
The match was still 0-0 at the time of the penalty, but Germany deserved to have taken the lead at half-time. Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck was denied a goal in the fourth minute after teammate Joshua Kimmich was fouled in the build-up.
Denmark’s most productive chance came just before half-time when Rasmus Hojlund came face-to-face with Manuel Neuer, who rushed to push the striker, but the Manchester United player was unable to lift the ball over him.
Kasper Hjulmand’s side thought they had taken the lead early in the second half when Joachim Andersen scored after a tussle in the box, but Thomas Delaney’s foot was inches wide.
Germany stayed calm, came back from the other goal and earned a penalty after the ball hit Andersen’s hand in the box. Havertz intervened and pushed him into the right back corner in front of Kasper Schmeichel after a VAR deemed the incident worthwhile. a kick
Nagelsmann’s men sealed their place in the quarter-finals after Musiala’s clinical result, the third of the tournament and the most of any player this summer.
The Bayern Munich star chased down a through ball and Schmeichel opted not to rush to snuff out the danger, allowing Musiala to take his corner and make it 2-0.
Germany’s quarter-final clash will take place on July 5 with the hosts facing either Spain or Georgia at the MHPArena in Stuttgart.

5 minutes before kickoff: The national anthems have ended and kickoff is as follows. . .
15 minutes before kick-off: In the German team there are 3 Borussia Dortmund players who will take to the field at their club’s stadium, but only one of them, Nico Schlotterbeck, is in the starting lineup. We would most likely see Nicolas Fullkrug come off the bench in the second half, while Emre Can’s appearance as a substitute would likely mean Germany would win the match.

30 minutes before kick-off: Danish duo Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen play together at club and foreign level, but will have a gift waiting for them when they return to Old Trafford for the next Premier League season. Dutch legend Ruud van Nistelrooy will join Erik ten Hag’s team as an assistant.
Hojlund is already a regular abroad and it turns out he has taken a step forward during his time at the English club, but can he also be the man to take the young Danish striker to the next level? Gerguyy would probably be happy to face Denmark. before Hojlund joins the Dutch coach than after.
?? Exclusive story confirmed: Man United will add Go Ahead Eagles’ Ruud van Nistelrooy and René Hake to its new behind-the-scenes staff. Erik ten Hag will sign a new contract in the coming days, all agreed and one hundred percent finished as revealed earlier this week. ✍?✅?? pic. twitter. com/6v9YC7z6dR
45 minutes before kick-off: It’s his swan song, but Toni Kroos seems to have a lot more left in the tank. Kroos has been a passing wizard in his career, but this summer he even took it a step further, completing the most passes through a single player in an entire level of Euro organization in the history of the festival, breaking his own record of 2016.
324 – Most successes go through one player in an organisational phase of UEFA EURO: 324 – Toni Kroos (EURO 2024) 323 – Toni Kroos (EURO 2016) 317 – Xavi (EURO 2012) 281 – Granit Xhaka (EURO 2016) 280 – Toni Kroos (EURO 2020)Crucero. pic. twitter. com/zoAbqYSIWJ
One hour before kick-off: the queues have arrived and, amidst rumors that Kai Havertz will be replaced by Nicolas Fullkrug, the Arsenal boy is still in the eleven! Instead, it is Florian Wirtz who strangely leaves the line-up with the arrival of Leroy Sane, while David Raum takes over at left back and Nico Schlotterbeck replaces the suspended Jonathan Tah at centre-back.
The only challenge for Denmark is the inclusion of Andreas Olsen alongside Christian Eriksen striker Rasmus Hojlund, with Kasper Dolberg sacrificed.
1 hour and 30 minutes before kick-off: The biggest question for Gerguyy head coach Julian Nagelsguyn today is whether he will stay with Kai Havertz in attack or upgrade him with Nicolas Fullkrug. There have been calls to leave Havertz, especially given Fullkrug’s form, but Nagelsguyn has hinted that he is pleased with the Arsenal striker in the role he has been asked to play.
“Kai is much less well received by the public,” said the German coach before today’s match. “In many games he has a transparent task, which means he doesn’t have many ball movements because he has to create space for others. He did exceptionally well. In the internal evaluation, Kai scores much higher than among the public .
News from Germany – Antonio Rüdiger expected to be allowed to play – Nico Schlotterbeck to update suspended Jonathan Tah – The trend is for Schlotterbeck’s BVB team-mate Niclas Füllkrug to start fitting in with Kai Havertz on the bench. #GERDEN
2 hours before kick-off: Hello and welcome to the live politics of the Germany vs Denmark match from The Sporting News. The round of 16 is officially here and Denmark will ruin the Germans’ party at home. Will they be able to do it? We’ll locate it soon!
This Euro 2024 match will begin at the Westfalentstadion in Dortmund on Saturday, June 29 at nine at night. German local time.
Here’s how this era reached some of the world’s major territories:
Niclas Fullkrug’s equaliser against Switzerland was his second goal in just 76 minutes on the pitch at Euro 2024 and his 13th in 19 international appearances, but it was not enough to make Kai Havertz a striker despite his play in the Dortmund player’s box. Florian Wirtz, on the other hand, fell with the arrival of Leroy Sané.
Antonio Rudiger returned on Friday with a sore thigh and retains his place in the starting eleven, with Nico Schlotterbeck replacing the suspended Jonathan Tah.
Germany XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer (GK) – Kimmich, Rudiger, Schlotterbeck, Raum – Kroos, Andrich – Musiala, Gundogan, Sane – Havertz.
Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand will be without his namesake Morten Hjulmand in midfield after joining Tah to accumulate 3 yellow cards in the organisational phase. Thomas Delaney has recovered from the illness and is the most likely replacement.
An abdominal problem for Christian Eriksen interrupted the arrangements as the experienced playmaker missed Friday’s education and travelled separately to Dortmund for Friday’s stadium visit. However, the Manchester United player has enough compatibility to start this weekend. He will have help as Andreas Olsen starts alongside him in an artistic position Rasmus Hojlund, with no place for Jonas Wind and Kasper Dolberg.
Denmark lineup (3-4-1-2): Schmeichel (GK) – Andersen, Christensen, Vestergaard – Bah, Hojbjerg, Delaney, Maehle – Olsen, Eriksen – Hojlund.
