Japan’s 14-year-old Coco Yoshizawa wins gold in skateboarding at the Paris Olympics

Japanese Coco Yoshizawa, 14, won gold in women’s street skateboarding at the Paris Olympics in a final reserved for teenagers.

Japanese competitor Liz Akama won silver, while Brazil’s Rayssa Leal won bronze at Place de La Concorde on Sunday.

Yoshizawa racked up 272. 75 points in his three races.

Akama, 15, scored 265. 95 for second place and Leal finished with 253. 37, comfortably ahead of China’s Cui Chenxi in fourth place.

Leal, who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics last time, is the oldest of the three medalists from the French capital, at 16 years old.

After the deluge that forced the men’s event to be postponed the day before, the sun returned on Sunday and impermanence became a humid basin.

Skaters can fall and miss a score up to 4 times during their seven attempts.

Yoshizawa did his penultimate trick with two big scores, but he needed a third to complete his total. Even so, he made a dangerous descent to the handrail and nailed it.

Although all her rivals still had a race, she raised her board above her head in triumph.

Skateboarding resumes on Monday and men’s street has been postponed from Saturday.

With reigning Olympic champion Yuto Horigome, Sora Shirai and 14-year-old Ginwoo Onodera, Japan could dominate again.
