RALEIGH, N. C. (WTVD) — It’s a magical musical moment for the Clayton High School Honors Choir students.
The band had the opportunity to perform live with the band Foreigner in Raleigh.
It’s 1984 and Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is” reached number one in the United States and United Kingdom.
It’s their greatest luck to date, and 40 years later, it still resonates with a new generation.
“One of the many reasons those lovely, talented youth choirs enroll at our level is because there is a genuine lack of investment in music systems in schools,” Kelly Hanson said. “So please reach out to your local politicians, reach out to school organizations, reach out to your teachers, make a donation. And help keep those hopes and dreams alive. “
Over the more than 17 years, Foreigner has worked with many choirs, performing with them in front of thousands of people.
“Once we heard the news, we all got really excited,” said Shamiah Bunch, a choir member.
At performance, Foreigner donates $500 to the choir’s choir program whilst also promoting CDs of the biggest hits on site. All budget pass to the Grammy Foundation.
“The fact that they support the performing arts and the dreams of children in general is just amazing,” said Solana Jenkins, a choir member. “It’s a wonderful opportunity. “
On Wednesday night in Raleigh, thirteen current and recent graduates of the Clayton High Honors Chorus took the stage. The choir was also selected in 2017.
“They called my director. The call came from 100. 7 and she said, ‘Congratulations, your choir has been chosen as the local choir that everyone comes up with to sing with Foreigner,'” choir director Ann Meigs said.
