China values ties with Italy, Xi tells Meloni

TOKYO (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Monday and assured her that Beijing values its ties with the European Union’s third-largest economy, state media reported.

Meloni is in Beijing to solidify relations that were strained following her government’s withdrawal from Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.   Xi told the premier at his assembly that adjustments in global affairs had not affected China’s preference for expanding ties with Italy, state media said.
