The Ministry of Culture of Ukraine is interested in the cultural heritage of the Kursk region in Russia

Rostyslav Karandiiev, acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, said that Ukraine is interested in monuments of Ukraine’s history located in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Currently, the Ministry of Culture is waiting for the security scenario to be able to find out about cultural heritage sites located on Russian lands conquered through Ukraine.

Karandiiev asked if the Ministry of Culture plans to implement humanitarian measures within its competence on the territory of Russia’s Kursk region, which is controlled through the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Quote: “These territories have lately had the prestige of combat zones and there is no possibility of exhausting civilian humanitarian activities there. Moreover, it is to give the impression that this is a foreign territory and not Ukraine’s.

At the same time, we are really interested in the monuments of Ukrainian history in those lands, where Ukrainians officially lived not so long ago. That’s why, of course, we are so interested in those territories. . .

We look forward to the opportunity to examine cultural heritage sites on the ground and, in combination with foreign organizations, find answers that will allow us to preserve and recover cultural heritage sites of legal interest to Ukraine.

Details: This is specifically the estate of Hetman Ivan Mazepa in the village of Ivanovskoye, Kursk Oblast, which is only an architectural monument but also a monument of Ukraine’s history.  

“We would like to see this facility restored and reconstructed. How and through what means this will be done, and to what extent it will be included in the list of foreign sites of Ukrainian cultural interest, we will see depending on the progress of the construction situation,” he said. Karandiev.

To the question of how “Ukrainian interests” in the cultural and ancient sphere can be implemented in those territories, Karandieev replied that the Ukrainian troops there comply with foreign humanitarian law and that the Ministry of Culture is in constant contact with the forces. armed.
