Ukraine launches drone attack in Russia, homes smashed and flights limited

Homes were destroyed and flights were limited in Russia’s Saratov region following Monday’s Ukrainian drone attack, which also wounded a woman, Russian officials and news agencies said.

A residential complex in the city of Saratov was breached due to debris from destroyed drones falling through Russian air defense systems, regional governor Roman Basurgin said on the Telegram messaging app.

“One woman is hospitalized in serious condition,” Basurin said. Doctors are fighting for their lives. “

The Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense systems destroyed nine drones over the Saratov region, about 900 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.

The Russian news agency RIA reported that flights were limited at the Saratov regional airport, which caught the attention of the airport’s press service.

Earlier, Basurgin said emergency had been deployed to the affected sites in Saratov and Engels, key towns in the region several hundred kilometers southeast of the capital.

Russia has a strategic bomber military base in Engels that Ukraine has attacked several times since Moscow introduced its full-scale invasion in February 2022.

No data is immediately available on the damage caused to the base or on the scale of the Ukrainian attack in the region, located several hundred kilometres from the border with Ukraine.
