CFB non-conferences continue to decline in impartial venues

Featured non-conference games in the first week of the school football season have “decreased in recent seasons” and there is “exactly one ranked vs. ranked game” this weekend: the LSU-Florida game. Been on Sunday at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Array according to Steven Godfrey of the WASHINGTON POST. Games at neutral sites have become “extremely popular in the 2010s,” when ESPN and Fox encouraged the “marriage of deep-pocketed corporate sponsors like Chick-fil-A or AdvoCare with cities like Atlanta and Dallas. Array and more late Charlotte and Houston. The sites would then “offer branded systems a guaranteed multi-million dollar payout for a single game. ” However, supporters of the more sensible groups “became impatient because their annual ticket packages did not have access” to home games against their more sensible opponents. It’s no coincidence that there is “a lack of featured games, just as fewer and fewer unbiased venues offer non-conference games. ” Atlanta (Louisville-Georgia Tech Friday) and Charlotte (North Carolina-South Carolina Saturday) are “still pretty functional” pitting two P5 groups against each other. Additionally, Nashville “managed to lure” Tennessee and Virginia to Nissan Stadium. However, other major cities like New Orleans, Dallas and Houston have “shut down for now” (WASHINGTON POST, 8/29).

IN DANGER, BUT NOT EXTINCT: Stewart Mandel of THE ATHLETIC noted that it was a “common fear” that the expanded MFF to 12 groups would reduce the number of P5 matches in Week 1, but it is not a fear he shares. The concept that “one game can make or break a team’s season largely disappeared when we switched from BCS to CFP nine years ago. “Most groups “can do a mulligan”, especially at the beginning of the season. In addition, there is “something of a laugh and an exclusive about those intersectional clashes at the beginning of the season between schools of big brands that do not compete often. “Mandel: “I don’t think I’ll be a passenger for a replacement in the playoffs” (EL ATHLETIC, 30/8).

TAKING THE LONG ROAD: In Orlando, Edgar Thompson noted that Florida was playing tonight in Utah in the first “true game outside Florida’s borders” since 1991, but that the Western vacation was “not an oddity or a scheduling issue, but rather a conscious decision. “UF AD Scott Stricklin “weighed several points in his efforts for non-conference football programs. “Part of this is that Stricklin is “keeping an eye on the future. “He said: “Players need to play those games and enthusiasts need to see them. . . Hopefully, once we get to the 12-team playoffs, the variety committee will continue to inspire and incentivize them through their decision-making” (ORLANDO SENTINELLE, 8/29).
